Burn One Down Set To Go The Distance

By Jeff Collerson

Victorian greyhound Burn One Down ($1.80) and the up and coming Ebby Ripper ($5.50) are tipped to fill the quinella in the Ladbrokes Summer Distance Plate (race six, 720m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Burn one Down ($1.80 with Ladbrokes) is looking to bounce back after he was beaten into third place in his heat last week in which he started $1.40 favourite for the race.

In that race, the Jason Thompson-trained greyhound was not able to overcome a poor start and was beaten by a sound seven lengths by Runway Bono.

Burn One Down's owner - NSW trainer David Pringle - believed his greyhound should be given a second chance by punters.

"(Burn One Down) looked a bit lost during the race and I think Sydney fans will see a different Burn One Down this week," Pringle said.

Meanwhile. Ebby Ripper's trainer Michael Eberand is happy with his greyhound's box eight draw but concedes she needs to be in front of Burn One Down in the middle stages.

"Ebby Ripper ($6) is very strong but she can't give Burn One Down a start," Eberand said.

"I was happy with her fast finishing second in It's A Fling's heat but want to see her a bit closer to the pacemakers in the middle stages."

Runway Bono, trained by recently anointed Wentworth Park trainer of the year Dean Swain, is on the second line of betting at $4.80 following his surprise heat win last week.

The Ladbrokes Summer Distance Plate is race six on the program, jumping at 9.12pm.
