Meteyard's Eternal Hopes At Lismore

By Stuart Turner

Former public servant Lawrence Meteyard is enjoying a happy retirement and he has three standout chances on Tuesday at Ladbrokes Park Lismore.

The Northern Rivers trainer rugs up Eternal Spring, Steve’s Jewel and Zingiber Guntur at the meeting with all three greyhounds racing well.

Eternal Spring jumps from box seven in the 5th grade Cosmic Rumble @Stud Stakes (race five, 520m) aiming for a fourth consecutive victory.

The daughter of Spring Gun and Babe Watch drops back in distance for this after two wins over the middle distance at Casino and Grafton recently but looks capable of saluting.

“I’m delighted with how she’s going, although she’d be much better drawn inside against these,” Meteyard said.

“We’ve freshened her up for this and I think Oh Boy in box six will go left which will hopefully give her a clear run.

“It’s a hard race and I’m not overly optimistic but she’s a chance.”

Steve’s Jewel (box one) faces some tough opposition  in the 4/5th grade Ladbrokes Mobile Apps Stakes (race six, 420m) but the draw has given her every chance of scoring a sixth win in her 19th start.

The son of Cosmic Rumble and Hope Diamond has scored four wins and a minor placing in six starts wearing the red rug and is racing well, having placed in her last two starts.

Zingiber Guntur (box two) was a handy last start winner from the same draw at Grafton and can salute again in the 5th grade Ladbrokes For The Challenge Stakes (race eight, 520m).

Meteyard, who started training about five years ago and has scored a steady string of winners since moving south from Queensland about two years ago, said both face competitive races.

“I couldn’t be happier with Steve’s Jewel’s draw,” he said. “It’s given her every chance.

“I’m not overly optimistic as this is a hard race (but) again she’s freshened up for this and the draw will certainly help.

Zingiber Gunter had a good win last start but I think Hombre Montana from box four is the one to beat. If he comes out well we’re running for second -  but I think Zingiber Gunter is a decent chance of a place.”

In other Lismore Tuesday action, newcomer Bill Dismal (box one) won well on debut at Lismore two starts back and can score again from this draw in the 5th grade 1800 Ladbrokes 1 Win Stakes (race two, 420m).

Spare Cash (box one), from the gun Glenda Dart kennel, is resuming after three months out but looks promising and is ideally drawn to win the 5th grade Ladbrokes.com.au Stakes (race 10, 420m).
