On 15 December 2016 Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) issued charges against trainer Mr Charles Hughes under rule 83(2) of the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules as follows:

That you, Charles Hughes, a registered trainer, while in charge of the greyhound ‘Just Twenty’, presented the greyhound for the purpose of competing in race ten at Coonamble on 7 May 2016 in circumstances where the greyhound was not free of any prohibited substance.

That you, Charles Hughes, a registered trainer, while in charge of the greyhound ‘Only A Dollar’, presented the greyhound for the purpose of competing in race 11 at Coonamble on 7 May 2016 in circumstances where the greyhound was not free of any prohibited substance.

The prohibited substance was cobalt.

Following Mr Hughes' early guilty plea to the charges, GRNSW Stewards have determined to impose a period of suspension of 10 weeks for each charge (to be served concurrently).
