Patch Adam Aiming To Hit The Spot At Richmond

By Stuart Turner

Patch Adam is stepping up in distance but owner-trainer Maxwell Rimmer believes that will not stop his exciting newcomer scoring another win at Richmond on Saturday night.

The impressive newcomer, who has scored five victories and three minor placings from 12 starts so far, has his first look at the western Sydney track jumping from box six in the 5th grade Swift Fancy @ Stud Stakes (race eight, 535m).

After two unsuccessful efforts at Wentworth Park, the son of Black Magic Opal and Limited Addition returned to form with a scorching last start 29.73 victory over the 515m at Unibet Gardens, cruising  home by 10 lengths.

This will be his first competitive crack at the 535m but Hunter Valley-based Rimmer thinks his greyhound is well up to the task.

“I think he’ll be fine,” Rimmer said. “He was broken in down there and has trialled at Richmond  so he knows the place.

“I’ve no worries he’s strong enough for this distance and he’s improving all the time. His only drawback is that he’s a little tardy early, but once he starts coming out of the boxes he’ll be flying.

“I think he’ll be competitive in this grade (and) I’m optimistic he can win.”

Patch Adam should have too much for this field although Nadal (box five), a consistent performer from the gun Dean Swain kennel, could provide stern opposition.

Best value chance could be Tell the World (box two), who won over this distance at Richmond two starts back in a respectable 30.76 and has built a solid record so far for owner-trainer Steven Jones.

In other Richmond Saturday night action, Ineka’s Charm (box one) looks the night’s best bet in the Maiden penrithelectrcial.com.au (race three, 400m) .

Ineka’s Charm has placed in three of her four starts so far – all over the 400m at Richmond.

Listen Up Jessie (box six) looks a handy newcomer for Edmund O’Brien and looks the top pick in the 5th grade Goulburn To Richmond Final (race two, 400m).

The daughter of Shakey Jakey and Nitro Snap has won her last three starts over the 350m at Goulburn, cracking the 20-second barrier  each time, and has had a solid performance trial win over the 400m at Richmond.

Struggle Street (box seven) is racing well and can score another win in the 4/5th grade NYE Race Night Dec 31 (race seven, 618m).

The Sam Sultana-trained greyhound has won two of his last four starts and placed from box seven at Dapto over the 600m two starts back.

Holme’s (box one) has been racing impressively in recent weeks and can win a very competitive Free-For-All www.racingtoarespectedfuture.com.au Stakes (race five, 400m).

The Ron Alcock-trained greyhound has won four times – all over the 400m at Richmond">Richmond - and placed twice in his last eight starts and should have the edge from box one.
