Gosford Abandonment

By GRNSW

Greyhound Racing New South Wales (GRNSW) advises that the Gosford meeting on Thursday, 29 December was abandoned due to safety concerns about the state of the track.

GRNSW Stewards and Veterinarians found the racing surface to be too hard and held concerns that it would jeopardise the welfare of greyhounds if racing took place. After consultation with the curator at the Gosford track, this left GRNSW no choice but to abandon the meeting.

GRNSW regrets any inconvenience the late abandonment caused for participants, but greyhound welfare and safety is GRNSW’s number one priority.

As per the GRNSW Club Funding Policy, if a race meeting is abandoned at any stage before the advertised closing time of kennelling, trainers will receive their travel subsidies but no prize money will be paid out.

GRNSW anticipates that the issue which caused last night’s abandonment will be rectified prior to the next scheduled meeting at Gosford on Tuesday, 3 January 2017. Participants are advised to double-check www.thedogs.com.au for any updates.

GRNSW also advises that the final three events scheduled at yesterday’s Dubbo meeting were abandoned due to an unexpected power outage in the area.
