Panel Beater Shaping up Well For Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Boom youngster Panel Beater was an unplaced hot favourite at his only Wentworth Park start but the son of former champion Double Twist is set to atone there on Wednesday night.
Panel Beater has box three in heat two of the This Is Our Run Stakes, a 520m fifth grade series.

Trainer Garry Edwards, who trained Double Twist, has always believed Panel Beater has the potential to be as good as his dam, who was the joint 2013 NSW Greyhound of the Year.

Edwards was concerned when Panel Beater drew box five at his Wentworth Park debut on November 23 and his fears proved well-founded with the dog missing the jump and finding trouble.

"I like him drawn close to the rails,'' Edwards said at the time, and the dog has won two of his four races from box three, the draw he has on Wednesday.

Jay Tee Pee surprised trainer Darren Sultana by making the pace and finishing second to National Derby prospect Falcon's Fury at Wentworth Park last Wednesday night.

"If he shows the same early speed on Wednesday Jay Tee Pee should be hard to beat,'' Sultana said.

Jay Tee Pee has box four in heat four of the This Is Our Run Stakes but has sufficient zip from the boxes to offset the middle draw.

Last week Jay Tee Pee surprised by outpacing his more fancied kennelmate Knock Wave in the run to the first turn, before hanging on gamely to beat that smart sprinter into third placing.

"That was Jay Tee Pee's first test over 520m in a long while and this is the first time I have been able to give him a solid preparation with no setbacks or interruptions,'' Sultana said.

Golden Zipper, described by trainer Natina Howard as "hopeless'' early, should only need a clear run to take out the 520m AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes.

Golden Zipper won first-up at Wentworth Park last Wednesday in the fair time of 30.46 but would have gone much quicker had he not collided with the tiring pacemaker Celebrate at the top of the straight.

"When he raced last week Golden Zipper was having his first look at Wenty since I trialled him there six months ago,'' Howard said.

"He is a smart dog but his problem is that he is hopeless early.''

Far A Part has been in Wyee trainer Jill Harper's kennels for only three weeks but the greyhound has trialled well enough at Wentworth Park to be a strong chance in Wednesday's sixth This Is Our Run heat.

Far A Part, who has had nine starts at the provincials for three wins and three seconds, clocked 30.62 in a recent Wenty hit-out for her new trainer.

"The track was slow and while I was there the fastest time posted was 30.48s so I was happy with Far Apart's time,'' Harper said.
