Ando's Mac Headlines Gosford Cup Heats

By Stuart Turner

Melbourne Cup winner Ando’s Mac and last year’s winner Knight Sprite headline Tuesday’s Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Cup heats.

Hot newcomer Mister Twister and track specialist Camden Gossip also look strong chances for the four heats of the $40,000-to-the-winner series, run over the 515m.

Ando’s Mac (pictured, box one) warmed up for the series by winning over the 520m at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night and looks to have drawn ideally for the first heat.

This is his first competitive appearance at Gosford but he has won all four of his previous four starts and the standout chance for the series.

Mister Twister (box five), also from the gun Jason Mackay kennel, also looks well positioned in box five for the second heat.

The recent Group 1 Vic Peters Classic and Group 3 Christmas Gift runner-up has won twice and placed once in three starts wearing the yellow rug and won over the 515m at Gosford on December 6.

Camden Gossip (box two) loves Gosford and looks tough to beat in the third heat.

The Doug Rogers-trained greyhound has won seven times and placed five times on her last 13 visits to Gosford, clocking 29.82 while placing at the track on November 22.

She has been freshened up for this and clocked 29.89 from this box at Gosford in July.

Knight Sprite, who placed behind Ando’s Mac in that thrilling race at Wentworth Park, has drawn box six  in the fourth heat.

The multiple Group winner has won three of his four starts at Gosford – including last year’s decider – and with two wins and two placings from box six may not be badly drawn.

Best value chance for the series looks like the Robert Smith-trained Lochinvar Dash, who has box four in heat one.

Lochinvar Dash has won three of her last four starts and ran a strong 29.64 at Gosford this week.

She faces the toughest heat with the likes of Ando’s Mac but  has placed twice from box four at Wentworth Park recently and looks capable of running well again here.

The four winners and four runners-up progress to the final, which takes place on Tuesday, January 3.
