Tobin Hopes For Max Power At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

Max Cady was a star of the show at the latest Wentworth Park meeting and can stay in the spotlight with a win at Gosford on Tuesday/

The consistent greyhound  jumps from box six  in the 4th grade Narrara Plumbing Services Stakes (race five, 515m) at the Central Coast track aiming for a fourth win in his last seven starts.

Max Cady produced one of the best performances of his career to defeat a decent field over the 520m in the Paul Murray Live Stakes at the Sydney circuit last Saturday night.

The race was named as tribute to the Sky News prime time presenter and greyhound racing supporter – with Murray and his team on hand to congratulate Max Cady at the post-race presentation.

"This dog has been pinging the lids lately,”  owner-trainer Peter Tobin said.

“I was a bit worried when he stepped to the right when the boxes opened. He has done that since day one - I think it is the way he sets himself just before the lids lift.

“It was a great win (though). He’s racing well for me at the moment and I was delighted to win a race like that.”

Max Cady’s recent strong form includes a smart 30.19 victory over the 515m at Gosford on November 22 and an eye-catching 29.71 run at Unibet Gardens on October 21.

The son of Cape Hawke and Maggie Jacobs now boasts the respectable career record of seven wins and 16 minor placings from 39 starts, including two placings from three previous starts wearing the green rug.

He faces a tough field including classy pair One Hill (box four) and Aston Ebert in box eight but on current form looks capable of scoring another win.

Tick Away Fire (box five) was an impressive winner at Unibet Gardens last Saturday night and looks capable of saluting in the 5th grade Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Stakes (race five, 515m).

The Mark Moroney-trained greyhound clocked a smart 30.09 over the 515m at the Gardens and also won over the 400m at Gosford on his previous start on November 29.

Lochinvar Amour (box two) is another greyhound racing well at the moment and can score another win in the Woy Woy Poultry Cup Heats 27/12 Stakes (race seven, 515m).

The Robert Smith-trained greyhound has scored two wins and two minor placings in her last four starts, including an impressive 29.87 victory over the 515m at Gosford on November 15.

She has built the consistent record of 12 triumphs and 14 minor placings from 35 starts and can overcome a quality field.

Newcomer Two Blue (box six) placed over the 400m at Maitland last start and looks the top pick in the 5th grade Gosfordgreyhounds.com.au Stakes (race 11, 515m).

The Charlie Lamb-trained greyhound has won smartly over the 515m at Unibet Gardens earlier this year and can win in a race lacking devastating pace.
