Belt Up Foss Can Motor Again At Cannington

By Stuart Turner

Trainer Pete Brown believes his greyhound Belt Up Foss is in career-best form and is confident he can salute once again in the 5th grade Gibbons Holden Gosnells Stakes (race eight, 520m) at Cannington on Saturday.

Belt Up Foss jumps from box three aiming for back-to-back wins after a smart 29.95 triumph over the 520m at Cannington last week.

That run followed three successive placings for the former Victorian and Brown Brown believes his greyhound’s winning form can continue on Saturday night.

“I think he’s maturing into a very good racing greyhound,” Brown said.

“He’s really enjoying his racing and it’s showing in the results.

“Belt Up Foss is such a consistent greyhound and this draw should suit him as he’s got some blistering early pace. He just needs to get his nose in front and then he can motor.

“He’s definitely worth putting your $10 on him for this race.”

Backing up Brown’s confidence is the fact Belt Up Foss looks to have the edge time-wise in what is a competitive field.

Sahara Burns (box seven) has an impressive best of 30.10 at Cannington but finished ten-and-a-half lengths behind Belt Up Foss last week.

Pepperfied (box two) has won over this trip at Cannington in 30.44 and has placed in her two previous starts wearing the checks.

“I think Pepperfied is the biggest threat, but the field is not much harder than the one Belt Up Foss faced last week,” Brown said.

“I’m really enjoying working with (Belt Up Foss). He’s a lovely greyhound to train and great to have around.

“He nuzzles up to you and is very affectionate. I think there’s more to come from him and he has a fair bit of potential. There could be some exciting times ahead for him yet.”

Last week’s surprise Anniversary Cup winner Who’s Got Snoop (box one) looks well-positioned to win the quality Free-For-All NPB Security Stakes (race four, 520m).

The CHRIS Halse-trained greyhound, who saluted last week with a smart 29.95 run, has won six times and placed twice in 10 previous starts from box one.

Jaycee was a sizzling 27.33 winner at Mandurah last start, cruising home by seven-and-a-half lengths and can win the 5th grade Fireworks On NYE Stakes (race seven, 520m).

The John Carmody-trained greyhound (box four) has a moderate record of two wins and two minor placings from eight previous starts wearing the blue rug but is racing well and is a class act at his best.

Gun trainer David Hobby has enjoyed a successful 2016 and can score two more wins with Pavel Monelli in the 5th grade Get The TabTouch Stakes (race nine, 380m) and Teddy Monelli in the 4/5th grade Kids Activities On NYE (race nine, 715m).

Pavel Monelli (box eight) looks a good prospect, has won his last three races and saluted wearing the pink rug at Cannington last week.

Teddy Monelli (box eight) is having his first start wearing the pink rug but has built the super record of 11 wins and seven minor placings from 19 starts.

He was second behind Olivia Benson on his first look at the 715m last week but looks capable of improving this week.
