Outside Pass Primed For Brisbane Cup

By Stuart Turner

Tony Apap believes  his greyhound Outside Pass is well positioned to take out tonight’s Group 1 Sky Racing Brisbane Cup (race 6, 520m) at Albion Park.

Outside Pass will jump from box seven in the $75,000-to-the-winner decider after qualifying with a very impressive 29.61 win in her heat last week.

She is likely to start favourite for the cup final on the back of that run and if she is anywhere near her best this evening looks favourably drawn to score a first Group 1 title for Apap.

“I couldn’t be happier with her run last week,” he said.

“I was a bit worried about her being boxed next to Elusive Desire, who makes a bit of noise in the boxes, but she handled it pretty well and ran a good race.

“I actually like her drawn in box seven as I like her off the track. If she comes out like she did last week she will put herself in the race.

“It’s absolutely awesome to be in a race like this – it’s what you dream of – and hopefully she can do it.”

It would not be a Queensland Group 1 without Tony Brett being involved and the leading trainer has three chances in the feature event with Zabdon Ferrari (box two), Thirty Talks (box three) and Whata Nice Size (box four).

Thirty Talks is in good form leading into this race having won his last three starts, including the recent Group 2 Ipswich Gold Cup.

He ran a sizzling 29.77 to win his heat last week and with a best of 29.66 at Albion Park looks the best of Brett’s high-class trio.

Blazin’ Bomber, the only Victorian contender in the race and an explosive talent at his best, won his heat in 29.75 and also looks a huge threat from box five.

The Darren Pattinson-trained greyhound can be slow out early but also ran 29.71 at Albion Park earlier this year and looks a big danger.

Crazy Vixon (box one) has won her last two starts from box one – albeit over the 400m – and looks a potential roughie chance.

She clocked 29.96 behind Blazin’ Bomber last week and has won her last two starts from box one – albeit over the 400m – and could take advantage of the rails draw.

Lady Abigail (box six) and Not Like Tommy in box eight are the outsiders.
