Stars Are Out For Christmas Gift Heats

By Stuart Turner

NSW star Brad Hill Billy, recent Goulburn Cup winner Clock’s Ticking and the ‘King of Wentworth Park’, Bessy Boo, headline this Saturday’s Group 3 Christmas Gift (520m) Heats.

Most of NSW’s best greyhounds will contest the four Heats of the $25,000-to-the-winner series, part of a terrific night’s racing at Wentworth Park.

Big Chicken (box one) won at a slow Wentworth Park last Saturday night in an impressive 29.82 and looks the top pick in the first Heat.

The Sam Sultana-trained greyhound has triumphed on three of his last six starts and placed at the Sydney circuit on October 22 from this box.

Brad Hill Billy (box three) will have his 83rd start in the second Heat but looks a great chance to improve his terrific record of 30 wins and 33 minor placings.

A winner of more than $260,000 prize money, Brad Hill won over the 516m at Dubbo three starts back in a smart 29.88 and was runner-up behind the formidable Ritza Lenny at Wentworth Park on his last start.

He has a modest record of no wins and five minor placings in nine previous starts from this draw but looks the one to beat.

A high-calibre Heat three features recent Group 1 Vic Peters Classic runner-up Mister Twister (box one) and last month’s Goulburn Cup winner Clock’s Ticking (box two).

The star of the gun Jason Magri kennel, Clock’s Ticking only finished fifth at Wentworth Park last Saturday night but won five of his seven previous starts.

He has a best of 29.87 at Wentworth Park and a repeat would likely win this.

Bessy Boo (box six, pictured) will be looking to extend his record-breaking number of Wentworth Park wins to 35 with success in the fourth Heat.

The evergreen Christine Proctor-trained greyhound is still racing well, having scored a placing at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.

He will have to overcome  strong field, though, headlined by in-form Nangar Bear (box two).

The Dennis Barnes-trained greyhound has won three of his last four starts and won on his first appearance last month at Wentworth Park on October 15.

Best value chance for the series could be Ritza Rossi (box five, Heat three), who has only won two his 12 previous starts from box five but has been racing well recently.

Kyah’s Comet (box eight, Heat three) has scored one win and three minor placings in his last four starts – all at Wentworth Park – and also looks a decent roughie.

The winners and runners-up from each Heat progress to next Saturday’s final at Wentworth Park.

Saturday night’s racing also includes a highly competitive $25,000-to-the-winner Group 3 Ladbrokes Summer Cup (720m) for the stayers.

Heat winner Lovelace (box eight) looks the one to beat.
