Tank The Weapon Ready To Rule Soldiers Saddle

By Stuart Turner

Tank The Weapon looks well drawn to take out the Bathurst RSL Soldiers Saddle Final (race seven, 520m) at Bathurst this afternoon.

The Neville Brown-trained greyhound jumps from box two in the $10,000-to-the-winner decider having won both his heat and semi-final of the three-week series.

Tank The Weapon has won four of his last five starts and clocked a decent 30.13 from box two while defeating kennelmate Naughty Nathan (box one) in last week’s semi-finals.

Brown believes Tank The Weapon is a strong chance to take out the feature event today.

"Of my pair, Naughty Nathan beats Tank The Weapon whenever I trial them together,” Brown said.

“In a full field, though, it is different. Naughty Nathan is a terrible beginner and even having box one is unlikely to bring him out more quickly.

“Tank The Weapon has a really good draw and he could lead at the first turn, especially as Lutiger, who has box three, uses a bit of the track.”

This is a competitive edition of the Soldiers Saddle, with all eight finalists looking to have claims.

Lutiger (box three) clocked 30.05 while winning his heat, while Willie Blues (box five) finished second behind Vast in the semi-finals but clocked an impressive 29.62 win in the heats.

Vast (box eight) clocked 29.96 while winning his semi-final last week and looks a threat, but may find it tougher to cross from out wide.

The final is race seven of the 11-race card and jumps at 6pm.

In other Bathurst action this afternoon, Lonnie (box one) looks capable of scoring another win in the Fifty 8 George 0-1 Wins Stakes (race five, 520m)

The Steven Albon-trained newcomer was a sound winner over the 450m at Bathurst on debut and with the inside draw can score another win.

Kravings can also take advantage of the rails draw to score a win in the 4/5th grade Blayney Motors Services And Repairs (race six, 450m).

The consistent John Brain-trained greyhound has an impressive record of four wins and five minor placings in nine previous starts from box one and won from this draw at Richmond three starts back.

Dandy Jack (box five) is much better than his last start failure in tough company at Wentworth Park and can win the 4/5th grade PA Ryan Memorial Stakes (race eight, 520m).

One of the stars of the gun Ray Smith kennel, he has won four times over this trip at Bathurst and has won once and placed once in three previous starts wearing the yellow rug.
