Mique Looks To Extend Perfect Cannington Record

By Stuart Turner

Track record holder Mique will bid to maintain his perfect record over the 380m at Cannington on Saturday night.

The consistent son of High Earner and Delaque jumps from box seven in the Free-For-All Gibbons Holden Gosnells  Stakes (race 12, 380m) aiming to improve his fine record of 21 wins and 13 minor placings from 39 starts.

Mique finished seventh over the 405m at Mandurah last week but has a phenomenal record eight wins from eight previous starts over the 380m at Cannington.

He has also won four of his five previous starts wearing the black rug and trainer Eric Campana said he his greyhound should the return to his happy hunting ground.

“I just wanted to change things up for him,” Campana said. “He hasn’t run at Cannington since June but he’s well suited to the track.

“He seems at home from box seven. He’s not a lid-pinger – he’s a musterer – but once he hits the ground he has amazing speed to burn.

“He’s where he wants to be so I have to be optimistic.”

This is Mique’s first run at Cannington since winning over the 380m in June but he has been a good recent performer, scoring nine wins in 15 starts in decent company at Mandurah.

He set a track best of 21.59 in April from box four and looks head and shoulders above this company, with last start winner Oldmate Mia (box two) looking the biggest threat.

“He doesn’t pull up well when he goes over longer but he’s so consistent,” Campana said.

“He’s a great dog to have in your kennel and you know he gives everything he’s got.

“He’s in great shape and now it’s really up to him.”
