Techno Aiming to Make A Noise At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Techno">Techno was a certainty beaten in the fastest Wentworth Park Maiden Series heat on November 21 and should only need a clean start to make amends in Wednesday night's 520m final.

A new addition to the kennels of Sydney's current leading trainer Dean Swain, Techno won a 515m performance trial at his first appearance for Swain on November 15.

The dog led throughout to defeat the Kerry Drynan-trained Dee Dee Kay by more than eight lengths in 29.96, outstanding figures for an unraced juvenile.

Techno went into last week's Wentworth Park heats without having seen the track and after being sent out a long odds-on favourite was beaten just under two lengths by Dee Dee Kay.

Drynan's greyhound led throughout from box two but Techno, who exited box four, was desperately unlucky.

After being checked at the start Techno encountered severe interference at the first turn and was relegated to a distant third position at the half-way mark.

He went to the line resolutely to beat all but Dee Dee Kay, whose time of 30.78 was .04 quicker than the second best heat figures recorded by La Montenara.

And Dee Dee Kay's sectional figures of 5.55 and 14.15 were also far superior to those of La Montenara, who recorded 5.61 and 14.31.

"I would have loved to have seen Techno in box one but I am pleased he has drawn inside Muguruza,'' Dean Swain said.

"In the heats Muguruza had box three and when she veered right at the start she collided with Techno, who had box four. If Muguruza does the same thing at the jump this week my dog could get a clear run early.

"Dee Dee Kay looks the greyhound to beat as she has box one, but Techno did beat her comfortably when they met in the performance trial at Gosford on November 15.''

Swain also has former Victorian Paua To Kapau making his Wentworth Park debut for him in the 520m Follow Us On Facebook Stakes.

Former Sydney trainer Steve White sent Paua To Kapau from Victoria to contest the Dapto Puppy Auction Classic heats on November 17 but the dog found trouble and finished sixth.

"Paua To Kapau has ability and although he has not been out of the starting boxes at Wentworth Park, he did go well in a post-to-post hand-slip at the track,'' Swain said.

Paua To Kapau's toughest rival looks to be Rojo Bonito, who has been placed in only one of three recent Wentworth Park outings.

Rojo Bonito had boxes five and six in those three defeats and her trainer John Heard, who has been enjoying a great trot with unbeaten Wentworth Park stayer Gunnadoo Cove, said: "Rojo Bonito is desperate for an inside box.''

Rojo Bonito won at Wenty last month from box eight but did so because she began so fast she was able to cross her rivals and be the pacemaker, on the fence, at the first turn.

Yass-based trainer Neil Staines landed a quinella at Bulli">Bulli on Saturday night when Tullabung Rock ran down Slamming Thunder and he has bright prospects of repeating that effort with the same greyhounds in Wednesday night's AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes, 520m.

Slamming Thunder, who had box four at Bulli, has box one this week while Tullabung Rock, who came from box three last Saturday, has box eight.

"Slamming Thunder is going well," Stainses said. "Because his fourth to Knight Sprite at Goulburn on November 15 was so good I thought he might upset Tullabung Rock at Bulli, but after Slamming Thunder led, Tullabung Rock got up underneath him and pushed him out of the way, going on to win clearly.

"Tullabung Rock has box eight on Wednesday night and he is ideally drawn, he is well suited out wide on a track like Wentworth Park.

"Slamming Thunder would also be better placed from a wide alley but I suppose box one is better than him being in the middle.''

Wednesday's Free-For-All, the 520m Sky Racing Stakes, features a mouth-watering clash between Brad Hill Billy (box four) and Ritza Lenny (pictured), who has drawn eight.

Brad Hill Billy turns four in January but is racing as well as ever and is looking to enhance his impressive Wentworth Park tally of 13 wins and 11 placings from 30 starts.

Ritza Lenny's superior early zip may tip the scales in his favour, because while he would be better suited drawn on the rails, he has won from box eight.

The Mark Gatt-trained star was sensationally backed from $2.60 to $2.10 before finishing a luckless third to Clock's Ticking in last Saturday's Wentworth Park Free-For-All.

Ritza Lenny was heavily supported on the strength of what owner Frank Gatt described as an "unbelievably fast trial at Dapto.''
