Clock's Ticking A Hobart Thousand Chance

By Jeff Collerson

Trainer Jason Magri is considering heading to Tasmania for the forthcoming Group 1 Hobart Thousand with Clock's Ticking following the dog's impressive win in Saturday night's 520m Free-For-All at Wentworth Park.

Clock's Ticking scored his sixth win in 13 Wentworth Park starts when he overtook Good Odds Regina on the back straight before scoring a half head win over the fast finishing Ritza Rossi in 30.34sec.

The heats of the Hobart Thousand will be run over 461m on December 15 with the final a week later.

"I believe the roomy Hobart track will suit Clock's Ticking perfectly," Magri said.  "I am seriously considering taking him there instead of tackling the Wentworth Park Christmas Gift with the dog.

Lovelace earned a tilt at next Saturday's heats of the Group 3 Summer Cup with her impressive "comeback'' win over 720m.

Making her first Wentworth Park appearance in two months, Lovelace trailed pacemaker Very Choosy to the home bend before drawing clear in the straight to win in 42.82.

Lovelace went into the fifth grade event with three wins and five placings from 14 Wentworth Park 720m outings but had been off the scene until finishing second over 535m at Richmond on November 11.

"I thought she could have been a bit under-done tonight because after the Richmond race all she had was a 618m event at that track, where she again finished second,'' trainer John Smart said. "I was hoping she would get through tonight's race okay because with another week under her belt she should be right at her peak for the Summer Cup.''

Lovelace boasts a personal best Wentworth Park 720m time of 42.18, so she is certain to be competitive in this year's Cup series.

Owner Ted Ciszewski admitted he thought Virouette was "gone'' when hot favourite Chevy Prince sat behind her at the first turn in a heat of Saturday night's 520m Ladbrokes Monthly Model Stakes.

But Virouette, a noted front-runner, produced the race of her career to lead throughout and win by just over three lengths from Chevy Prince in a slick 30.17.

Virouette's second and third splits of 13.83 and 17.98 were the best of the night.

"When I saw Chevy Prince right on her hammer I thought he would run my greyhound down for sure, but Virouette's trainer Ron Lambert had been confident she would run a great race," Cizewski said. "She produced her best ever performance.

"I hope she draws box one again in the final but that might be asking a lot because Virouette has had the rails at each of her past four Wenty starts!''

Virouette's overall figures of 30.17 compared well with Good Odds Bricky's time standard of 29.98 for Saturday's meeting.

See you next week!
