Last year’s winner Let It Develop, multiple Group race champion Knight Sprite and hot newcomer Wicked Warrior headline this year’s star-studded Heats of the Goulburn Workers Club Cup (440m).
The 2015 finalist To The Galo’s and boom youngster Clock’s Ticking will also feature in Tuesday’s four Heats of the series, Goulburn’s premier event of the year.
Heat one is one of the toughest races of the year, with virtually all the field looking decent chances to win the eventual $10,000-to-the-winner decider.
The 2015 winner Let It Develop, who also secured the $75,000-to-the-winner Group 1 Dapto Megastar, jumps from box one on the first Heat (race six) and looks the one to beat in the series.
He has had more than 100 starts but continues to race well for trainer Jodie Lord, scoring a win last week at Dapto, and took last year’s title with a track record 24.34 effort.
Let It Develop faces a tough task here, though, facing the likes of hot kennelmate Got A Motor (box two) and class Victorian To The Galo’s (box four), who ran a track record 29.43 in last year's Heats.
Also in the same race is recent Group 1 Vic Peters Classic finalist Clock’s Ticking (box five) and decent series roughie Super Senor (box eight).
Clock’s Ticking won in a smart 24.75 last week at Goulburn last week while Super Senor triumphed in 24.91 at the same meeting and has won four of his six previous starts from this draw.
Wicked Warrior is one of NSW’s best young greyhounds and looks the best bet in the second Heat (race seven).
One of the stars of gun trainer Jason Magri, this year’s Group 3 Magic Maiden winner and Group 1 Vic Peters Classic finalist has won eight times and placed twice in 15 races so far.
This year’s Group 2 Gosford Cup and Group 2 Richmond Oaks winner Knight Sprite (box eight, pictured) looks the best bet in Heat three (race nine).
The Gayle Masterson-trained greyhound has now won more than $200,000 prise money and won 28 of his 68 starts.
This is his first look at Goulburn but he is racing solidly at the moment and has won four of his nine starts from box eight.
Natahli Dedee (box five) has been a solid performer for NSW South Coast trainer Loretta Rice and looks the standout in Heat four.
This is also her first look at the track but she has scored 14 wins from 37 starts and is in decent form, having won at Bulli three starts back.
Other decent roughie chances for the series include Old Bailey (box seven, Heat three) and El Magnifico (box six, Heat four).
The four Heat winners and runners-up progress to next Tuesday’s final, the biggest race of the year at Goulburn.
