Maya Herrera Primed For Wentworth Park Win

By Jeff Collerson

Maya Herrera's last win was at Dapto two months ago but a sharp drop in class should put the talented Garry Edwards-trained greyhound back in the winner's circle at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

Maya Herrera has box three in heat two of the This Is Our Run fifth grade series (race three, 520m) and her trainer is delighted with her draw.

"I just wanted to see her anywhere from boxes one to four so box three is lovely,'' Edwards said.

"Maya Herrera has been racing against top company at Wentworth Park and at the provincials and she should relish dropping back to fifth grade. She is racing better than ever and had no luck when third to Let It Develop at Dapto last week.

"At her start before that, at Wentworth Park, she was badly hampered trying to get to the rails before finishing fourth, from box five, to Clock's Ticking.''

Trainer Mark Gatt expects Centrico">Centrico to score his second Wentworth Park win in 96 hours when he exits box two in heat three of the This Is Our Run series.

Centrico led throughout to win from box one at Wentworth Park on Saturday and tackles identical class on Wednesday night.

"He pulled up well after Saturday's win and if Centrico can get around Sawadee">Sawadee, who has box one, in the run to the first turn, he should lead and win," Gatt said.

"Sawadee is a bit of a worry because she likes to get up the track but if he begins cleanly Centrico should outpace her.''

Gatt also has Takedown">Takedown in box six in Wednesday night's Free For All and Saloot">Saloot, who has box five, up against Maya Herrera.

"Takedown's last run at Wenty was good but I think he might make the race for the favourite Mister Twister, who has box seven,'' Gatt said.

"Takedown is likely to give Mister Twister a good cart across to the fence in the run to the first turn.

"But while Saloot won from box one last Saturday night at Wentworth Park and he moves to box five on Wednesday I rate him a strong chance.''

Mister Twister (pictured) is expected to take his record to seven wins and a second from eight starts on Wednesday night.

Royal Turbo, unbeaten in three races, all at Gosford, is favourite to take out the Gosford to Wentworth Park Final (520m).

Royal Turbo's 30.04 figures for the 515m were fastest of the Gosford heats on November 1 and although he has box four on Wednesday trainer Glen McKinley expects him to run well.

"He has had a couple of trials at Wentworth Park and has gone well enough to suggest he will run a good race,'' McKinley said.

"But Royal Turbo is by far the youngest dog in Wednesday's final," McKinley said. "While I expect him to go close to winning I won't be disappointed if he loses because he is only a baby.

"Hhe usually begins well and is a good railer so as there a couple of slow beginners drawn inside him he has a good chance of getting across to the fence early.''

Best value on Wednesday should be Unique Gatsby, who has box three in heat one of the This Is Our Run Series.

Unique Gatsby bungled the start before finishing third, beaten only a length, to Centrico and Amani at Wentworth Park on Saturday night and the shift from box six then to box three on Wednesday is an asset for this good railer.
