Single Sticka Aims For Happy Return At Cannington

By Stuart Turner

John Carmody has worked hard to get Single Sticka back to the track – and he is hoping that hard work pays off with a win at Cannington on Saturday night.

Single Sticka has not been seen since picking up an injury in July but will return in a high-quality Free-For-All NPB Security Stakes (race four, 520m) aiming to extend his impressive record of 10 wins and two minor placings from 20 starts.

Single Sticka broke the new Cannington track record in June with a 29.74 victory over the 520m at Cannington, which followed two impressive sub-30 second efforts at the Perth track.

The greyhound will jump from box one – a draw that Carmody has an indifferent view about.

“To be honest I think he does his best work from the outside where he can go around them, but even so this draw should help,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing him back. He was always a smart greyhound and capable of running strong times.

“I’ve had to do a fair bit of work getting him back but he’s been trialling very well in solo trials – close to his best times. I’m reasonably optimistic he can go well.”

Single Sticka will be up against a top field which includes recent Group 3 Mandurah Cup winner Monaro Monelli (box four).

Jamaica The Fun (box two) has shown blistering early pace and looks well drawn, while Who’s Got Snoop (box eight) won at Cannington last week from box one but has a decent record from out wide.

In other at Cannington on Saturday night, Teddy Monelli looks the night’s best bet in the 5th grade Free Entry TabTouch Park Stakes (race one, 600m).

The David Hobby-trained greyhound is the track record holder over this distance and looks ideally drawn to extend his impressive record of nine wins from 14 starts.

Exciting talent Pepper Fire (box eight) also looks a strong chance to salute in the 5th grade Gibbons Holden Gosnells (race three, 520m).

The recent Group 3 SA Oaks winner, who was runner-up in last week’s Group 2 WA All Stars Sprint behind kennelmate Weblec Belle, has won once and placed three times in four previous starts wearing the red rug.

Pepper Fire ran 30.02 while placing from this box at Cannington two starts back and should have too much class for this field.

In-form duo Miss Espresso and Velucci look the ones to watch in races nine and 10 respectively.

The Tim Mullany-trained Miss Espresso (box five) has won her last three starts and won from this box at Cannington last month.

Velucci (box seven)  has won four of her last six starts for gun trainer Paul Stuart and ran a sizzling 34.71 over this 600m trip two starts back.
