Alcock Hopes For Winning Colours At Richmond

By Stuart Turner

Ron Alcock rugs up five greyhounds at Richmond this evening and rates the impressive Switch Colours as his best winning chance.

Switch Colours will compete in the 4/5th grade Magic Sprite @ Stud event (race eight, 400m) at Richmond, with her trainer confident of a bold showing given the greyhound’s draw in box three.

“I think Switch Colours is my best hope of a win tonight. I think she’s well drawn tonight,” Alcock said.

“When Switch Colours is in box one or two, she usually gets into trouble. She usually moves out to the three when she jumps, so this draw should give her a straight run.

“She’s racing decently and I expect her to run a good race again.”

Switch Colours is in decent form, with one win and four minor placings from her last six starts. She won from box three at Richmond four starts back and also saluted from the same draw over the 400m at Richmond in August with a smart 22.83 run.

Alcock also has Sooty Oak (box six) in the same race as Switch Colours, with the son of Oaks Road looking for a win after two unplaced runs.

Alcock’s other leading chance tonight is Holme’s, who will jump from box four in the high quality free-for-all Ladbrokes Stakes (race six, 400m)

Holme’s faces a competitive field, including his kennelmate Khumba (box six), and has only won one of his six starts wearing the blue rug. He has won three of his last four races, though and has built a consistent record at the provincials.

“Holme’s is racing really well and he’s drawn inside Khumba which suits him, but he’ll have to do everything right as this is a very tough race,” Alcock said.

Holme’s will also have to hold off the Doreen Drynan-trained However Humble (box two), who has won three from three wearing the checks and is unbeaten at Richmond.

In other Richmond Friday action, Makenton Jag (box three) can salute in the 5th grade Globe Memorial Stakes (race two, 535m).

The Rob Tyler-trained greyhound has raced solidly at Wentworth Park since returning from almost a year out and should appreciate the drop in class for this.

Rosacky Blitz (box four), from the gun Christine Proctor kennel, looks the night’s best bet in the 5th grade Sires On Ice Stakes (race 10, 400m).

The eye-catching newcomer has produced two smart runs at Maitland on her first two starts over the 400m.
