Can I Typo Looking A Clear Chance At Maitland

By Stuart Turner

Rick Burke’s good run of form looks set to continue, with the Hunter trainer rugging up strong chances in each of the quaddie legs at Maitland on Thursday afternoon.

Burke has Sprited Quality (box six, race five), Precious Quality (box three, race six), Can I Typo">Typo (box two, race seven) and Extreme Quality (box seven, race eight), and rates the in-from Can I Typo as his best winning hope.

Can I Typo jumps in a quality heat of the 4/5th grade East Maitland Business Houses Series (450m) aiming for a fourth consecutive victory after wins over the 400m at Unibet Gardens and Richmond during October.

This will be Can I Typo’s first look at the 450m since May but Burke believes his greyhound can win.

“He needed the inside draw to be competitive against the likes of Chevy Prince (box six),” he said.

“If he was on the outside it’d be tough, but from this draw I’m confident. If you watch his last start win at Richmond he ran home hard, so he can handle the distance.

“I’m ecstatic with his form since coming back from a break and he certainly looks competitive in this.”

Burke also tips Spirited Quality and Extreme Quality as good chances in their respective races.

Spirited Quality faces a tough field including airborne Chiricahua (box two) but has won four of his last seven starts, while Extreme Quality has mixed form recently but won over the 301m at Coonamble two starts back.

“I’m confident Spirited Quality can win,” Burke said.

“He ran 25.28 last start at Maitland and a repeat would go close here. Chiricahua has been racing superbly but is an unknown quantity at Maitland so on current form Spirited Quality should go close.

Extreme Quality will get the room he needs from box seven so is a decent each-way chance.”

Burke has only been training greyhounds for about 18 months alongside partner Kelly Fogarty but their kennel is achieving notable success.

“We’ve had eight or nine wins from our last 15 starts so things are going well,” Burke said.

“There’s no handbook for training greyhounds. It’s a huge learning process, but it’s highly enjoyable.

“The main thing is showing your greyhounds plenty of love. If you do that, they’ll do their best for you.

“That’s the main ingredient for me.”

In other Maitland Thursday action, in-form duo Sandave Cruise (box five) and Hurricane’s Boy (box seven) look strong chances in races nine and 11 respectively.
