Black Hole Sun Ready To Shine At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

John Little only has a small team in work but on Wednesday night the Wilton trainer a strong chance of landing a Wentworth Park treble with three sons of his former handy sprinter Chasing Diana.

Pedro Cerrano can lead all the way after drawing box one in the 520m Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes (race six) while Black Hole Sun, who won in fast time from box eight at Wentworth Park last Saturday night, is nicely positioned in box seven in the AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes (race five, 520m).

Kyah's Comet's zip from the starting boxes gives him a great chance of overcoming box five in the 520m gapnsw.com.au Stakes (race eight).

Pedro Cerrano was whelped by Chasing Diana in August 2013, while Black Hole Sun and Kyah's Comet were from her January 2015, litter.

Chasing Diana was a Wentworth Park winner who won five races for Little but her offspring are even better, with Pedro Cerrano having taken out 16 races, Black Hole Sun saluting the judge on four occasions from just eight appearances, and Kyah's Comet having won five times.

"They each pulled up soundly after their races last Saturday night and there is no reason why they won't race well on Wednesday,'' Little said.

"Black Hole Sun is probably the quickest of my trio and he went nicely on Saturday, winning in 29.91. He can perhaps go a Little bit quicker too because he got a slight bump going around the first turn on Saturday.

"Pedro Cerrano was a close second most of the way before finishing fourth on Saturday and as he was having his first start for three weeks he could have been a fraction under-done and should be fitter on Wednesday. He has good early pace and box one is a bonus for him.

"Kyah's Comet is no world beater but usually jumps away smartly and he looks to be in a suitable race on Wednesday.''

Also tipped to have a successful meeting on Wednesday is The Oaks-based trainer Shaun Evans, who has Wamogo">Wamogo in box five in the Bulli to Wenty Final (race four, 520m) and Costin">Costin in box seven in the 520m ORANGE By-Election Stakes (race 10, 520m).

Wamogo won his heat over 472m at Bulli last Saturday night in 26.35 so is easily the fastest qualifier for the Wentworth Park final.

"Box five is the worry with him,'' Evans said. "It would have been nice to have drawn an inside box with Wamogo but in his favour is that he has had a lot of Wentworth Park experience.

"Wamogo has not only been runner-up in two of his three races there but he has also had a few trials around the track.

"Costin is well boxed in seven as she likes an outside draw and will run in a direct line from the start to the first corner. She missed the jump when unplaced to Where Art Thou at Wentworth Park last Saturday night but Wednesday's race looks a lot easier.

"Hopefully Costin will begin better this week because if she does she should go well.''

Costin, who was runner-up to brilliant front-runner Nacho Nellie in a harder Wentworth Park race on October 19, appeals as Wednesday night's best value bet.

The star wager, though, should be Winsome April, who has box five in the 720m Ladbrokes Appreciation Stakes (race three).

Winsome April is inclined to get back in the field in her races so should relish having only five opponents.

The John Finn-trained greyhound is a relative newcomer to long-distance racing but at only her second Wentworth Park 720m test last Wednesday night she came from sixth on the back straight to finish second, beaten only a length by Tommy The Weapon.

Winsome April faces an easier task this week.
