Jappular Looking Four-Midable At Grafton

By Stuart Turner

Sonia Kempshall has nominated Jappular">Jappular as her best chance in tonight’s Ladbrokes Red Dog Sprint Series Final (race seven, 480m) at Grafton.

Local trainer Kempshall rugs up kennelmates Black Hoodie (box three) and Jappular (box four) in tonight’s final, with the pair both looking strong contenders to claim the night’s feature race.

Black Hoodie has won her last two starts, triumphed from this box at Casino last month and clocked a decent 27.74 win in last week’s heats.

But Kempshall believes the lightly raced Jappular is her best chance after the greyhound returned from an eight-month break to finish second in her heat.

Black Hoodie is the more experienced of the pair but I think Jappular is the better racing dog. She just has more ‘oomph’,” Kempshall said.

Jappular has been unlucky so far but at her best she can definitely go (and) I think she’s got just a bit extra than Black Hoodie. This is a very tough race but of my pair, Jappular has the edge.”

The Michael Patterson-trained Stark Warning (box two) was the fastest heat qualifier in 27.43 and looks the biggest danger to the Kempshall-trained pair in tonight’s final.

In the night’s other decider - the George’s Tree Service Maiden Final (race eight, 407m) – impressive newcomer Canalai (box seven) looks the best bet.

The Roger O’Neil-trained greyhound was a dominant 23.21 winner in last week’s heats and should have no problems overcoming the wide draw this evening.

In other racing at Grafton this evening, Hazard County (box six) looks the standout chance in the first heat of the Village Green Hotel 1-2 Wins Series (race three, 305m).

The Amanda Rayner-trained greyhound showed good pace to win from this box over the 411m at Casino earlier this month and looks a winning chance coming in fresh for this assignment.

Vision Time (box one) won well over the 411m at Casino on debut earlier this month and looks the one to watch in the second heat (race nine).

He had earlier recorded two sound performance trials at Capalaba and is in sound hands with experienced Northern Rivers mentor Reg Gardoll.
