Ando's Mac Heads To Melbourne Cup Preludes

By Stuart Turner

Group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic winner Ando’s Mac is a confirmed starter in a Prelude of this Friday’s Group 1 TAB Melbourne Cup (515m).

The Jason Mackay-trained speedster (pictured), who underlined his status as NSW’s most exciting newcomer with a brilliant victory in Saturday night’s $75,000-to-the-winner decider, jumps from box seven in the 16th Prelude.

Having earlier won his heat and semi-final, Ando’s Mac completed a dominant series with a sizzling 29.69 run in the Vic Peters Classic final at Wentworth Park.

That brilliant triumph extended the record of Mackay’s greyhound to a terrific 14 wins and five minor placings from 26 starts.

Ando’s Mac will face a quality field at Sandown Park including fellow NSW hopeful Maja Mahi Mahi (box four) and this year’s Richmond Riches winner Thirty Talks (box five).

Fellow NSW stars Ritza Lenny, Mitcharlie Mia and Where Art Thou are among the other hopefuls in action in the Preludes.

Winners will earn entry into the heats of the Melbourne Cup, which take place on Friday, November 11.

The $420,000-to-the-winner final – the world’s richest greyhound race – takes place a week later.

Meanwhile, Ando’s Mac’s kennelmate and Vic Peters Classic runner-up Mister Twister jumps from box four in the 4th grade Xmas Night December 17 Stakes (race two, 520m) at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

The son of Collision and Double Twist has scored five wins and a placing in his first six starts, including impressive victories in the Vic Peters heats and semi-finals.

Wednesday’s Wentworth Park meeting also features a super 3/4th grade race involving the King of Wentworth Park, Bessy Boo.

The evergreen Christine Proctor-trained greyhound extended his record-breaking run of Wentworth Park victories to 33 with a win at the Sydney circuit last week.
