Ando's Mac One To Beat In Vic Peters Classic

By Jeff Collerson

Ando's Mac's blistering 29.65 semi-final performance gives him the equivalent of more than four lengths on his rivals in this Saturday night's Group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic but the box draw has thrown the Wentworth Park final wide open.

Ando's Mac, whose best form has been from inside draws, handled box eight with ease in his all-the-way semi-final win but has drawn box six in the $75,000-to-the-winner decider.

Trainer Jason Mackay provided the two fastest semi winners, with Ando's Mac's kennelmate Mister Twister winning in 29.94.

The Garry Williams-trained Reviewer began with his customary zip to lead throughout in 29.98sec while Clock's Ticking overcame a slow start to win the other qualifying race in 30.11.

But the box draw has also brought a pair of runners-up, Benteke and Wicked Warrior, into the final with great chances.

Benteke, who came from fifth in the middle stages and fourth on the home turn to beat all but Mister Twister, has drawn box one.

The Jason Magri-trained Wicked Warrior, who chased home kennelmate Clock's Ticking, is well positioned in three.

"I think he has a great draw because Chaser, in box two, is a tight railer and while Wicked Warrior missed the jump tonight, he is capable of pinging the lids,'' Magri said after Saturday's semi-finals.

Although Ando's Mac has drawn box six trainer Jason Mackay is not unduly concerned.

"Reviewer, who is drawn outside him in box seven, runs straight from the boxes to the first turn and my other dog, Mister Twister in box five, won't get in Ando's Mac's way,'' Mackay said.

Reviewer's first split of 5.44 was .02 than Ando's Mac's figures and his trainer Garry Williams is happy with box seven.

"I really wanted box eight because Reviewer gets up the track a little so box seven is next best,'' Williams said. "This is a terrific field but in my greyhound's favour is that he is usually a fast beginner and that's always an asset in big finals.''

Melbourne trainer Brett Bravo, who trains Benteke for a NSW syndicate, let out a cheer when his greyhound came up with the rails alley at the post semi-final box draw.

The Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic Box Draw is: 1 Benteke 2 Chaser 3 Wicked Warrior 4 Clock's Ticking 5 Mister Twister 6 Ando's Mac 7 Reviewer 8 Srixon with reserves Black Hole Sun and Mack Tux.

Winsome Amanda joined the ranks of "super mums'' when she rattled home from third on the back straight to win a 520m fourth and fifth grade at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

The John Finn-trained greyhound scored her eighth win in 37 starts, with her brief racing career having been interrupted by motherhood.

Winsome Amanda has whelped a litter of puppies to the great FernAndo Bale.

Ritza Lenny, who was first reserve for Saturday night's Group 1 Topgun at Melbourne's The Meadows, confirmed his talent by landing his seventh win in 13 Wentworth Park appearances in the Wentworth Park Free-For-All.

Ritza Lenny's 29.62 effort was fastest time of the night.

See you next week!
