Star Kennelmates Face Vic Peters Classic Duel

By Stuart Turner

Star kennelmates Clock’s Ticking and Wicked Warrior go head-to-head in a blockbuster semi-final of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic (520m).

The Jason Magri-trained pair, who each won their respective heats last Saturday night, jump from boxes two and three in Saturday’s first of four semi-finals of the $75,000-to-the-winner series at Wentworth Park.

Clock’s Ticking, who saluted in 30.06 last Saturday night, has placed in each of his two previous starts wearing the checks and has won on two of his last four visits to the Sydney circuit.

Wicked Warrior (pictured, yellow rug), who made it eight wins in 13 starts with an impressive 29.80 heat triumph, has won three of his four previous starts from box three and looks ideally drawn for this race.

A winner of the Group 3 Magic Maiden at Wentworth Park earlier this year, Wicked Warrior could be hitting form at the perfect time for this series.

Fastest heat winner Ando’s Mac, from the gun Jason Mackay kennel, has drawn box eight in the second semi-final.

Ando’s Mac has won six of his last seven starts and was a sizzling 29.72 winner last Saturday night but has only won one of his four previous starts wearing the pink rug.

Runway Bono (box four), who has won his last two starts for leading western Sydney trainer Dean Swain, looks the pick in the third semi-final.

He was an impressive 29.81 winner in the heats but will have to overcome likely strong opposition from Reviewer (box two) and hot Victorian Rippin Rose (box six).

Unbeaten Jason Mackay-trained newcomer Mister Twister, who made it four wins from four in the heats, jumps from box four in the fourth semi-final.

He was a terrific 29.97 winner on his Wentworth Park debut but faces formidable former NSW star Benteke on Saturday night.

Now in the kennel of Victorian trainer Brett Bravo, Benteke (box two) has won on three of his last four visits to Wentworth Park and saluted in a storming 29.67 from box one at the track in August.

The winner and runner-up from each semi-final progress to next Saturday night’s decider.
