War Cry Sounding Out Another Victory At Richmond

By Stuart Turner

Ross McDougal is “very confident” his promising greyhound War Cry can score another win at tonight’s Richmond meeting.

War Cry jumps from box three in the 4/5th grade Bernipave 1-4 Wins Stakes (race eight, 618m) having won two of his last four starts, including a strong 30.68 victory over the 535m at Richmond two starts back.

Tonight will be War Cry’s first go over the 618m but Londonderry owner-trainer McDougal believe his greyhound is up to the task.

“He should handle the 618m fine,” McDougal said.

“His only weakness is he lacks a bit of early pace but he’s a very tenacious greyhound who keeps coming in his races. He also seems to begin a lot better when he’s drawn inside too, so this draw tonight is another bonus.

“If he finds the fence early then he should have little trouble leading these.

“I’m very confident he can win this.”

War Cry finished fourth from box seven in a strong 535m race at Richmond last week but saluted in 30.74 at Richmond on August 31.

“War Cry gets home over the 500 metres very strongly and is bred to win,” McDougal said.

“His brother Wolf Cry, finished fifth at Wentworth Park last Wednesday night but has won over the 618m at Richmond.

“Wolf Cry is the faster of the two, but War Cry is the smarter greyhound.

“I’m hoping Wolf Cry will be back at Richmond next Friday and War Cry can have a crack at Wentworth Park soon.”

In other Richmond Friday action, Simply Ola (box one) looks the night’s best in the Ladbrokes Maiden Final (race one, 535m).

The Michael Hooper-trained greyhound was a solid 31.34 winner from box four at Richmond last week and has also placed here twice in recent weeks.

Senorita Regina and Cawbourne Skeeta can both take advantage of box one to win races three and four respectively.

Unique Replica can also win from box one in the 4th/5th grade Direct Electrical Supplies Stakes (race six, 535m).

The Michael Hardman-trained greyhound  has a Wentworth Park triumph to his name and was a smart 28.83 winner at Bulli on his last start.
