Star Apap Duo Headline Gold Coast Cup Heats

By Stuart Turner

Star kennelmates Swap Ya and Outside Pass both look strong chances to score wins in Thursday's Group 3 Clint’s Caravan Warehouse Gold Coast Cup (520m) heats at Albion Park.

The Tony Apap-trained pair jump from boxes one and six in the first two heats of the $25,000-to-the-winner series and are both shaping as strong contenders.

Swap Ya has built the formidable record of 14 wins and nine minor placings from 48 starts and has been in strong recent form, winning three of her last four starts.

She has scored four wins and two minor placings from nine previous starts wearing the red rug and triumphed from box one at Albion Park in a solid 30.21 three starts back.

This draw may give her the edge over talented Zabdon Ferrari (box two), who has won five of his last six starts and is one of the kennel stars for gun Queensland trainer Tony Brett.

Outside Pass finished fifth in a heat of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup last week but merited her crack at the $75,000 top prize, having scored  13 wins and seven minor placings from 30 starts.

She has won five of her last seven starts at the Brisbane track, with that record including a brilliant 29.61 effort three starts back.

Box six has never been kind to her as she has failed to place in two previous starts with the green rug but she still looks the top pick in this heat.

Other strong contenders for the series include Thirty Talks (box six, heat three) and Sheza Keen Size (box eight, heat four).

This year's Richmond Riches winner Thirty Talks (pictured) has mixed form recently but is a brilliant talent on his day with a sizzling best of 29.66 at Albion Park.

Sheza Keen Size has also been a little inconsistent recently but is a solid talent at her best and looks well drawn, having won three of her five previous starts from box eight.

She ran 29.95 last start over the 520m at Albion Park and if on form looks the best in this heat.

Best roughie chance for the series could be Tripum, who jumps from box seven in the third heat.

The Darren Russell-trained greyhound has won four of his last seven starts and has a super record from the wide boxes.

The four heat winners and runners-up progress to next Thursday's decider.
