Fred The Weapon Ready To Fire At Richmond

By Stuart Turner

Kennelmates Fred The Weapon and Ochre Keroma look capable of scoring more success for trainer Wayne Boreland at tonight’s Richmond meeting.

The Macarthur-based trainer rugs up the promising pair Fred The Weapon and Ochre Keroma in the Goulburn To Richmond Final (race seven, 400m) and South Windsor Butchery 2-4 Wins Stakes (race eight, 535m) respectively.

Fred The Weapon (box three) scored victories in his first two starts at Goulburn before finishing sixth at the Southern Tablelands track over the 350m last week.

The tricky opposition includes  Cinquecento (box four) and Fubre in box five but Boreland’s son Johnny believes Fred The Weapon can salute again.

“There’s a couple of dangerous young greyhounds in this race but I think he can win,” Boreland junior said.

“It’s his first go at the 400 metres but his run home at Goulburn was good, so he’s 100 per cent up to this distance.

“I’m expecting him to run a good race.”

Ochre Keroma is one of NSW’s most in-form greyhounds, with victories in her last four starts.

Her latest triumph came last week when she saluted over the 565m at Maitland on September 22, cruising home two-and-three-quarter lengths in a smart 32.08.

She has won two of her three visits to Richmond – both over the 535m – and from this draw should be too good for this field.

Ochre Keroma looks capable of winning again for the Borelands, who have enjoyed several wins in recent months this the likes of this par and Golden Rat Lass.

“She’s going superbly at the moment,” Boreland junior said. “If she gets out she will be hard to beat.

“I’d probably like her drawn a bit wider but you cannot complain with box two. With her speed it’s no harm to her chances.

“She trialled enormously at Richmond this week and I am expecting her to go well in this race.”

Lagoon Jazzy (box seven) has been a little below-par recently but can return to winning ways in the Magic Sprite @Stud (race three, 400m).

The Sharron Webster-trained greyhound has had three unsuccessful starts but has won six of her 13 starts and has clocked an impressive 22.50 over this trip.

Iona Express (box eight) scored a sound placing behind winner Mystagogy last week and can go one better in the penrithelectrical.com.au 2-4 Wins Stakes (race six, 535m).

The Martin Green-trained greyhound is a Wentworth Park winner and triumphed from this draw over the 520m at Dapto in July.

Both Starza Smiling (race one, box five) and Miss Bewitched (race nine, box two) are coming back from long breaks but on previous displays can win their respective races.
