Black Lee Bonus Aiming To Strike Gold Again

By Jeff Collerson

Group 3 Casino Cup winner Black Lee Bonus has a great record from box eight and looks drawn to notch her fourth successive win when she returns to Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

Trained by Evelyn Harris at Whiteman Creek, near Grafton, Black Lee Bonus will wear the pink rug in the opening event, the 520m Ladbrokes Appreciation Stakes.

She has won four of her nine races from box eight and has a good Wentworth Park record, having scored a win and a second from just three appearances at headquarters.

"We had been trying to win the Casino Cup for five years and to win it with Black Lee Bonus, the great-great-grand-daughter of Another Bonus made it special,'' Evelyn's husband Len said.

"Black Lee Bonus pulled up well after her Cup win on September 23 and she had a hand-slip on Sunday which topped her off nicely for Wentworth Park.

"She will run straight from the boxes to the first turn and won't cross over until she is clear.

"Black Lee Bonus is only a little 24kg greyhound so just needs to be left alone for the first 10 or 20 metres.''

While Black Lee Bonus looks Wednesday's best value bet the safest wager should be the Jason MACKAY-trained Zipping Silva in the 720m AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes.

Zipping Silva had not been tried beyond 600m before leading throughout over 720m at Wentworth Park last week when he exited box five.

He has drawn box six against similar opposition on Wednesday and while he clocked a respectable 42.51 last week MACKAY said he expected the dog to improve.

"After three or four goes over the 720m I think he can get down to around the 42 second mark given a dry, fast track,'' MACKAY said.

Wednesday's Ladbrokes Bulli To Wenty Final looms as a match race between heat winners Better Call Sloy, who has box five and Notorious Thief (box six).

The Darren Sultana-trained Better Call Sloy led throughout to win his 472m Bulli heat in a sizzling 26.26 while Notorious Thief, from the Phil Cini kennels, led all the way in 26.60.

"My dog is untried beyond 472 metres but if he jumps like he did at Bulli he should be the pacemaker,'' Sultana said. "If he can get away with a handy break he should be hard to beat although as he is tackling 520m for the first time he might get a bit tired.''

Phil Cini said Notorious Thief has not seen Wentworth Park but he does not believe that will be a problem.

"He had never seen Bulli before his heat win and is highly promising, having won three of his four starts,'' he said.

"If Notorious Thief had drawn inside Better Call Sloy I would be more confident but Darren's dog seems inclined to get wide on the home turn so we are in with a chance.''

Best boxed runner on Wednesday is the Frank-Busch owned and trained Lynne's Angel, a fast beginner who has drawn the rails in the ladbrokes.com.au Stakes (520m).

Lynne's Angel won over 400m at Richmond and 520m at Dapto before finishing fourth at that South Coast circuit on September 22.

"She was vying for the early lead at her last run when she found some trouble,'' John Head, Busch's son-in-law said.

"But Lynne's Angel has won at Wentworth Park and is going really well at present.

"Box one is a great draw for her.''

Brad Hill Billy (pictured, checks) should only need a clear run to notch his 13th Wentworth Park 520m win in Wednesday night's Free-For-All.

The dog came from last to  trounce a similar line-up at his most recent race, at Wentworth Park last Wednesday.
