Bell Eyeing Krakka Of A Win At Nowra

By Stuart Turner

Impressive newcomer Krakka looks among the standout chances in today’s Group 3 Classicbet Nowra Spring Puppy Classic (520m) heats.

The Cliff Bell-trained greyhound, who placed in the recent Group 3 Dapto Maiden Classic series, jumps from box one in the fifth and final heat of the $25,000-to-the-winner series.

Krakka caught the eye with a sizzling 29.73 run from box seven in the semi-finals of the Dapto series last month before finishing second in the decider behind winner Vintage Power.

The son of Fabregas and Bush Slang has had two unsuccessful starts at Nowra so far but showed further promise while placing at the track last week behind winner Surfer Blue.

"Krakka had box seven when he won at Dapto but he won despite the draw, not because of it,” Bell said. “He is perfectly positioned on the rails at Nowra.

"I have set him for this race and Krakka has trialled a smart 30 seconds for the Nowra 520m trip.

“I would expect him to go well here.”

Krakka also placed on debut in the heats of the Dapto series and was only beaten by a quarter-of-a-length by last week at Nowra while running a decent 30.42.

Left Pocket (box eight) has run 30.04 at Nowra and looks Krakka’s strongest opponent, although he has run unplaced in two starts wearing the pink rug so far.

Krakka looks a strong chance to take out the Spring Puppy Classic, which is open to greyhounds whelped between July 1 and December 31, 2014.

Other greyhounds to watch in the series include Got A Motor, who jumps from box six in the first heat.

The JODIE Lord-trained greyhound has already scored a solid 30.30 victory at Wentworth Park and also won at Canberra on his last start.

Litter brothers Dusty Gambler (box one) and Sharp Gambler (box two) have each scored impressive wins so far and look the best in heats two and three respectively.

With the scratching of Fantastic Blake then local star Spring Creek Wil (box seven) looks the best in heat four.

The Phil Goodsell-trained newcomer has raced well recently, scoring two wins in his last three starts, and has won once and triumphed from this box at Bulli last month.

The series continues with semi-finals next Monday, with the final seven days later.

In other Nowra Monday action, promising La Chica Pequena (box four) looks the best bet in the A1 K9 Boarding Kennel 1-2 Wins Final (race four, 365m).

The Donna Campbell-trained greyhound has won three of her first four starts, including a solid 20.68 victory in last week’s heats.
