Maja Mahi Mahi Firing For Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Maja Mahi Mahi was beaten into second place in a Casino Cup heat at her most recent start but punters should ignore that loss when assessing form for Saturday night's 520m #cantheban Stakes at Wentworth Park.

The Charlie Lamb-trained greyhound has box eight in the fourth and fifth grade event and had the same draw when she won a heat of the top grade Bob Payne Spring Sprint at Wentworth Park on September 3.

"Forget about her getting beaten at Casino because she had never seen the track before and missed the jump,'' Lamb said.

"It was a whole new set up for her and under the circumstances her run was satisfactory.

"Maja Mahi Mahi pulled up well and I have since had her checked over and she is raring to go.

"I do prefer Maja Mahi Mahi drawn inside but she did handle box eight perfectly when she won her Bob Payne heat at Wenty.

"The best time she has recorded at Wentworth Park is 30 seconds flat but if she nailed the start and got a clear run I think she is capable of getting down to around 29.70.''

Lika Zircon turned three last month and while trainer Denice Warren believes he is now "a couple of tenths'' below what he was six months ago the dog is boxed to win Saturday night's racingtoarepsectedfuture.com.au Stakes (520m).

Lika Zircon dwelt at box rise and was immediately hampered by the greyhound on his outside before he finished second at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.

The greyhound rattled home to go under by only a length to Runway Idole and looks to be in a suitable race on Saturday night.

"Early in Lika Zircon's career I preferred him drawn on the rails but as he has got older he likes to scout around the outside of his rivals so box eight should suit him,'' trainer Warren said.

"He probably has one more Wenty win in him before he reaches a too hard grade and this race looks a good opportunity for him.''

Slick Oscar's box one draw gives him a second-to-none chance in Saturday night's AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes, 520m.

Slick Oscar, who has won two of 10 Wentworth Park starts, ran a big race when second from an unsuitable box eight draw behind Moonstone Kahn at headquarters last Saturday night.

"He turns four next April so is getting on a bit but he is going really well,'' Rudi Drapiewski, whose son Andrew trains Slick Oscar, said.

"Before last week's second at Wenty he finished an unlucky fourth at Gosford and had he not been held up for a run there Slick Oscar would have gone close to winning.

"With a quick getaway and a clear run from box one I think he is capable of getting down close to 30.10  at Wenty.''

Le Perro was beaten in a photo finish by Enrage in his heat but he is the dog to beat in the final of the 520m ladbrokes.com.au Sprint Series on Saturday night.

The Kristy Sultana-trained greyhound bungled the start and ducked off at the first turn but rattled home after giving the leader 10 lengths' start in the middle stages.
