Decision - Mark Azzopardi

By Greyhound Racing NSW

On 8 September 2016 Greyhound Racing New South Wales (GRNSW) commenced an inquiry under the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules into the sample taken from the greyhound ‘Carjack Arrest’ after it competed in Race 3 at the Richmond Greyhound Club on 5 August 2016.

The sample was found to contain the prohibited substance, amphetamine.

The greyhound ‘Carjack Arrest’ was presented to compete in the event by registered trainer Mr Mark Azzopardi.

The Stewards balanced all the factors including the seriousness of the allegations relating to the detection of a drug that is a permanently banned prohibited substance under the rules and a category 2 prohibited substance under the GRNSW Penalty System.

As a result, the Stewards determined to impose an interim suspension of the Mr Azzopardi's licence in accordance with Rule 92(5) of the rules.

Mr Azzopardi has been notified of his rights of appeal.
