Decision - John Baskett

By Greyhound Racing NSW

On 10 August 2016 Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) Charged owner-trainer Mr John Baskett as follows:

a) That you, John Baskett, a registered owner-trainer, did not ensure that greyhound 'Witchway' received veterinary attention when necessary on or around 25 August 2015, at which time the greyhound was in your care and custody. This was in contravention of Rule 106(1)(d) (Charge 1).

b) That you, John Baskett, a registered owner-trainer, did not exercise such reasonable care and supervision as may be necessary to prevent the greyhound 'Witchway' in your care or custody from being subjected to unnecessary pain or suffering on or around 25 August 2015. This was in contravention of Rule 106(2) (Charge 2).

Mr Baskett entered a plea of not guilty to the Charges.

GRNSW Stewards reviewed the evidence before the inquiry and found Mr Baskett guilty of the Charges. Having regard to the above considerations, the Stewards considered that the following penalties were appropriate in the circumstances:

(a) Charge 1 - six months disqualification.
(b) Charge 2 - nine months disqualification.

The Stewards have also determined the penalties are to be served concurrently commencing the date of this decision.
