Decision - Meredith Smith

On 12 August 2016 Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) Charged Ms Meredith Smith under rule 83(2) as follows: 

(a)    That you, Meredith Smith, a registered trainer, while in Charge of the greyhound ‘Sweet Symphony’ at Casino on 2 October 2015 presented the greyhound for the purpose of competing in race 3, the McDonalds Pharmacy Maiden event over 411 metres in circumstances where the greyhound was not free of any prohibited substance (Charge 1).

(b)    That you, Meredith Smith, a registered trainer, while in Charge of the greyhound ‘Swift Cruise’ at Lismore on 6 October 2015 presented the greyhound for the purpose of competing in race 2, the Ladbrokes Visa Card Stakes, 5th grade event over 520 metres in circumstances where the greyhound was not free of any prohibited substance (Charge 2).

(c)    That you, Meredith Smith, a registered trainer, while in Charge of the greyhound ‘Swift Cruise’ at Lismore on 17 November 2015 presented the greyhound for the purpose of competing in race 5, the Ladbrokes Medal Bitches Heat, 4/5th grade event over 520 metres in circumstances where the greyhound was not free of any prohibited substance (Charge 3).

(d)    That you, Meredith Smith, a registered trainer, while in Charge of the greyhound ‘Swift Cruise’ at Lismore on 24 November 2015 presented the greyhound for the purpose of competing in race 6, the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Final, 4/5th grade event over 520 metres in circumstances where the greyhound was not free of any prohibited substance (Charge 4).

The prohibited substances referred to in the Charges are: 

(a)    Charge 1 – oxazepam and dehydronorketamine;
(b)    Charge 2 – oxazepam;
(c)    Charge 3 – piroxicam; and
(d)    Charge 4 – piroxicam and dehydronorketamine.

Following Ms Smith’s early guilty plea to the Charges, GRNSW Stewards have determined to impose a period of concurrent suspension of 10 weeks.
