Mitcharlie Mia Returns For Casino Cup Heats

By Stuart Turner

Local star MitCharlie Mia and recent Group 2 Black Top placegetter Maja Maja Mahi headline Friday’s eight heats of the Group 3 Charcoal Inn Casino Cup (484m).

MitCharlie Mia (box one, pictured) is having her first run for almost two months but looks ideally drawn in the fifth heat of the $25,000-to-the-winner race, the biggest of the year at the NSW Northern Rivers track.

This year’s Group 2 Richmond Oaks winner has won four out of four previous starts from box one and has built the impressive record of 21 wins and 12 minor placings from 45 starts.

She has drawn in a tough heat, however, which includes classy performers Midnight Moments (box two), Nangar Thunder (box five) and One Hill (box six).

Maja Maja Mahi has been in terrific recent form, scoring a brilliant 29.39 victory at Unibet Gardens and reaching the final of last Saturday’s Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint at Wentworth Park.

Charlie Lamb’s greyhound looks ideally drawn in box one in the third heat (race six).

Other strong chances for the Casino Cup heats include Mahailia, who jumps from box one in the first heat (race two).

The local, trained by Frank Hancock, won smartly over this distance at Casino last week and has scored two wins and two minor placings from four previous starts from box one.

Consistent Queenslander Cyndie’s Magic (box three) looks a strong chance in the day’s eighth race, heat five.

She has never previously raced at Casino but has built the impressive record of 27 wins and 36 minor placings from 86 starts, including three wins in her last five outings.

Logger County (box two) is proving a handy greyhound for another local trainer, Darryl Armfield, and looks the strongest chance in the seventh heat (race 10).

She has scored four wins and eight minor placings in 15 starts for Armfield, running some good races in strong company at Albion Park and looks a decent roughie chance for the series.

Chador Khan (box one) has won three of his last four starts and looks ideally drawn to score another win in heat eight, the day’s 11th race.

He has built a handy record of 13 wins and 19 minor placings from 50 starts for trainer Glenda Dart and won over this distance at Casino in August.
