Got A Motor Revving Up For Nowra Puppy Classic

By Jeff Collerson

Got A Motor will tackle the heats of the 520m Nowra Puppy Classic on September 26 following his impressive first-up win at Wentworth Park last Wednesday night.

Having his first start for new trainer Jodie Lord, Got A Motor was fourth away but easily outpaced his rivals to lead at the first turn.

The son of Collision and Sizzling Osti then drew away to win by three lengths in 30.30, posting a nippy second split of 13.87.

Got A Motor is now undefeaTed in three starts from box eight.

After the race his owner-breeder Ashley Dwyer said: "I have paid up to have him and his siblings in the Nowra series.

"While Got A Motor had not raced or trialled at Wentworth Park before tonight, he has had a hit-out around Nowra so will be ready for the Classic heats.

"I have a huge opinion of this greyhound and believe he is capable of winning the group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic at Wenty next month.

"He is a son of Sizzling Osti, who I purchased for $4000 as a puppy from legendary Riverina breeder Ted Doss.

"Sizzling Osti won nine races and filled 21 placings for me and like most of Ted's breed, is proving a success at stud.''

Retired postman Billy Davidson delivered the goods again for punters at The Gardens on Friday when his greyhound Carlukal scored his third win in six starts.

Carlukal, third going through the catching pen, took the lead on the back straight and won easily, covering the 515m in a slick 29.85.

"I wasn't surprised at how well he got to the line because Carlukal is very strong,'' Davidson said.

"He is the first dog I have trained for Nick Clifton, who was a shareholder in the former top class sprinter Cool Mat, who won the 2006 Richmond Derby.

"In fact I only met Nick for the first time at The Gardens on Friday.

"I now plan to trial Carlukal at Wentworth Park with a view to giving him his first start there.''

Billy, who will be 72 next month, is the father of successful Brandy Hill trainer Mark Davidson, currently enjoying a run of success with Rapid Dominance.

"The best greyhound I've trained was Lorian's Magic, winner of five races, while I was also part-owner of Shirl's Magic and Bundy Bear, won 21 races between them and who were good

Wentworth Park winners when trained by Mark,'' Davidson said.

Former champion stayer Ada Mary, who won 18 races and earned more than $142,000 prizemoney, has whelped four dogs and two bitches to boom sire Barcia Bale.

Ada Mary's trainer Sharon Grey, who is caring for the 11 week old pups, has certainly not had much free time in recent weeks.

Grey trained Stoffberg to win impressively at The Gardens on Friday, taking a break from hand-feeding a litter of five pups whelped by another of her former greyhounds, Bekim Girl.

"Bekim Girl was fast but was the most timid greyhound I have trained, I have never seen a dog so terrified of people,'' Grey said.

"Because I knew how quick she was I maTed her with Barcia Bale, hoping that might inject the pups with the confidence their mother lacked."

While the ever-unassuming Grey believes Stoffberg secured a "lucky'' rails run on Friday, the dog came from seventh early and midfield with 250m to go, snatching victory with an impressively powerful finish.
