Worm Burner Looks A Hot Chance At Angle Park

By Stuart Turner

Star duo Worm Burner and Fabregal look hot chances in Thursday night’s Ubet SA Sprint Championship (515m) heats while in-form Caustic Bale can also secure another win.

The trio are among the hopefuls in the three events, which are races three, four and five on the card respectively at Angle Park.

Worm Burner (box four) is currently one of the country’s most eye-catching greyhounds, with his sizzling 29.62 victory at Angle Park last week his eighth consecutive triumph.

The Cameron Butcher-trained greyhound has broken the 30-second barrier in each of his last nine starts, including a storming 29.48 success in June.

He won from box four at Angle Park in June with an ultra-impressive 29.56 effort and with one win and two placings from three previous starts wearing the blue rug, looks very tough to beat.

Fabregal (box eight) has been one of Australia’s most consistent greyhounds over the last year and can return to winning ways in heat two.

The Robyn Mackellar-trained greyhound incredibly never finished lower than third place in her first 34 starts before two unsuccessful outings in her last two starts.

She looks well drawn in this race, however, with her two wins from three previous starts wearing the red rug including her sensational 29.39 triumph back in May.

The third heat looks a very competitive affair but Caustic Bale has won his last two starts and can make it three jumping from box two.

One of the stars from the strong Ben Rawlings kennel, Caustic Bale zoomed home last week from box five in a storming 29.77.

He has won four times and placed four times in 12 previous starts wearing the checks and scorched home in 29.52 on his last start from this draw back in May.

Coorong Kid (box four) has a best of 29.51 at Angle Park but has been slightly below-par recently, while exciting pup Lachlan Brown (box one) is a winner of seven of his nine starts so far and looks the most dangerous threat.

Also on the card are two heats of the National Distance Championship heats over the 731m, with both again looking competitive affairs.

Springvale Bryne won from box eight at Angle Park in June and can repeat that feat from the same draw in the first heat (race six).

The Gavin Harris-trained stayer has won four of his six previous starts jumping from the outside box and is currently racing well, having scored six wins and four minor placings in her last 10 starts.

Kennelmate Luna Jinx (box four) has been one of the country’s top stayers and looks the top pick in the second heat (race seven).

The evergreen daughter of Velocette and Hannah’s Jinx recent good form has extended her record to 29 wins and 25 placings from 81 starts.

She has won three times and placed three times in nine previous starts wearing the blue rug and looks too strong for this field, with She’s A Looper (box two) the only likely threat.

The final of both races take place next Thursday, with the winners of the deciders progressing to the Group 1 National finals at Angle Park on Saturday, September 27.
