Winsome Spring A Winning Chance At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Winsome Spring, who gave the flying Lowanna's Son eight lengths start and went under by less than two lengths last week, is poised to go one better in Wednesday night's fifth heat of the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes at Wentworth Park.

The son of Spring Gun and Winsome Charlee has box four but goes into the race with the imposing record of four wins and a second from six starts.

With a slick personal best Wenty time of 29.98 already to his name he has the equivalent of a massive seven lengths on his nearest rival, American Rose.

Last Wednesday, Winsome Spring began well but after being beaten for early pace and crowded for room, he took over six lengths off Lowanna's Son in the final 200m.

That was a big effort as Lowanna's Son has now won three of his four Wentworth Park races and there don't appear to be any greyhounds with his ability opposing Winsome Spring this week.

Wednesday night also marks the Wentworth Park debut of Lowanna's Son's kennelmate and litter sister Lagoon Jazzy in the second heat of the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes.

"Lagoon Jazzy is faster than Lowanna's Son,'' Ray Webster, whose wife Sharron trains the pair, said. "We are very happy with Lagoon Jazzy's box eight draw.

"She might miss the jump by a half length but from the outside we expect her to storm down the outside of the field.

"Lagoon Jazzy will run straight from the boxes to the first turn and won't attempt to cross her rivals until she clears them.''

Best value bet of the night should be She's Grand, a brilliant front runner who has box five in heat four of the Ladbrokes Odds Boost.

She's Grand has registered three wins and a second from her past four provincial outings, leading throughout to win at Dapto">Dapto at her latest race.

"She had never even been trialled at Dapto before she won there so for her to run 30.25 was a good effort,'' trainer Rodney O'Brien said.

"She's Grand has a lot of class about her and while I gave her a solid preparation in shorter races at Bulli and Goulburn she has now proved she can run 520 metres.

"At her only Wentworth Park start on June 29 she finished fourth from box eight but is a much better greyhound now.''

If She's Grand wins on Wednesday she will lift her earnings to over $12,000, not bad for a youngster who cost only $3000 as a 13-month-old puppy.

The rails draw should prove an asset for Grabbo Knows and No Apologies in the first two legs of Wednesday night's quaddie.

Grabbo Knows will carry the red rug in The Gardens to Wenty Final while No Apologies will exit box one in heat one of the Ladbrokes Odds Boost.

Grabbo Knows led until the last couple of strides when second in his heat but on sectional times from The Gardens should lead his rivals a merry dance on Wednesday.

No Apologies has been placed in two of six harder events at Wentworth Park and with Sketchy Sprite, who uses a bit of the track, in box two, is set to get the run of the race.
