Frosty's Capable Looks A Hot Chance At Launceston

By Stuart Turner

Frosty’s Capable and Lil’ Miss Marny look the ones to back in tonight’s Tasmanian Distance (720m) and Sprint (515m) Championships at Launceston.

The Distance and Sprint titles are races five and seven on the card, with both looking competitive events.

The Wayne Williams-trained Frosty’s Capable is in terrific form, with four wins and three minor placings in his last eight starts.

He finished second in last week’s Distance warm-up behind Mahalo Miss (box three) but looks capable of turning the tables tonight, having secured the prize rails draw.

Frosty’s Capable has built a solid overall record of 10 wins and 33 minor placings from 65 starts and likes this distance, having won twice and placed five times in eight previous efforts over the 720m.

His record wearing the red rug is a modest two wins and two minor placings from 10 previous starts but he won his last start from box one in June and with a clean getaway he should have too much for the rest.

Newcomer Mahalo Miss is also in good form, having won twice and placed twice in her last four starts and looks the biggest danger.

The Sprint title also looks a tight affair, with several of the contenders in good form.

Lil’ Miss Marny (box eight) was a hugely impressive 29.50 winner last week jumping from box three, defeating a strong field by four-and-three-quarter lengths.

She moves to the outside draw for the final but that should not pose too many problems as she has won once and placed once in two previous starts with the pink rug, including a smart 29.70 win in March.

Of the rest, Katey Roman (box four) and Buckle Up Beneau in box one look the main dangers to Lil’ Miss Marny.

In other Launceston Monday action, classy Prescribe (box eight) and in-form Movie Fever (box seven) look the top picks in races three and four respectively.

The winners of each race progress to the National finals, which take place at Adelaide’s Angle Park on Saturday, August 27.
