Non-TAB Racing Review Update

By GRNSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) advises that Non-TAB racing will resume at Young following a completion of a review by GRNSW into track safety, integrity and animal welfare issues at the track.

As previously announced, GRNSW suspended racing at Non-TAB tracks last month pending a review by GRNSW into track safety, integrity and animal welfare issues at these tracks.

As previously noted, Non-TAB racing resumes at Wauchope, Tweed Heads and Temora  tomorrow (Saturday) After the completion of a review of these tracks. Racing will now also resume at Young on Saturday, August 13.

Participants are advised that Non-TAB racing will also take place at Tweed Heads next Saturday, August 13.

All four tracks have been inspected by GRNSW in recent weeks and GRNSW is satisfied that the appropriate safety, integrity and animal welfare standards have now been met.

As the controlling body and regulator for greyhound racing in NSW, GRNSW is committed to robust supervision of the industry to safeguard greyhound welfare, safety and integrity at all levels of the sport.

GRNSW notes that a track safety inspection is one part of the review, which also has had regard to recommendations from the Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW, focusing on addressing the gaps in integrity and animal welfare oversight in the Non-TAB sector.

GRNSW has also introduced a requirement for vets to be in attendance from the start of kennelling through to the completion of all race meetings. This includes a requirement for the vet to conduct an inspection of all greyhounds as they are kennelled for the race meeting.  Moving forward, clubs will also be required to have vets in attendance for any trialling conducted After the last race of the meeting.

In addition, GRNSW will now require one staff member from its Regulatory Unit to be in attendance at every Non-TAB race meeting in order for any meeting to proceed to assist in upholding the integrity of the sport.

Track inspections and the assessment of the remaining Non-TAB tracks are ongoing. Participants should visit the ‘Calendar’ section of www.thedogs.com.au for further information on the scheduling of Non-TAB meetings.

GRNSW will continue to update participants on the progress of the Non-TAB racing review.

Participants wanting further information on the  Young and Tweed Heads meetings on Saturday, August 13 should contact the GRNSW Grading Department on (02) 8767 0500.
