Outside Pass Primed For Queensland Championship

By Stuart Turner

Outside Pass, Thirty Talks and Fabulous Bill look the ones to watch in Thursday night’s Ubet Queensland Sprint Championship heats (520m) at Albion Park.

The impressive trio head the list of contenders aiming to book a place in next Thursday’s State final, with a place in the $75,000-to-the-winner National title later this month then up for grabs.

Outside Pass (box four) has been in terrific recent form, scoring three wins and three minor placings in her last six starts.

The Tony Apap-trained greyhound  placed from this box on her last start and won from box four in a sizzling 29.68 back in June.

She can be tardy out of the boxes but is a class act and looks the clear top pick in this heat.

Thirty Talks (box eight) has been below-par in his last two starts but looks capable of returning to winning ways in the second heat.

This year’s Richmond Riches winner has a scorching best of 29.66 at Albion Park and won his only previous start form this box, albeit at Sandown Park back in March.

He can be slow exiting the boxes but the wide draw should give him the space he needs to get into the race and display his blistering mid-race speed.

Fabulous Bill (box three) was a smart 29.98 winner at Albion Park two starts back and can triumph again in the third Sprint heat.

He found trouble on his last unsuccessful start seven days ago from box eight but won from box three back in May with a 29.92 effort and should take advantage of the more favourable draw in this race.

Two heats of the Queensland Distance Championships (710m) also take place tonight with Cyndie’s Magic (box eight) and Mullaway in box six looking the respective top picks.

The consistent Cyndie’s Magic, who has scored 10 wins and eight minor placings in her last 20 starts, has been a true star over the last two years for her trainer Bill Elson.

Famed for her slow starts and powerful late surges, she has scored three wins and three minor placings from eight previous starts wearing the  pink rug and on current form looks tough to stop.

Mullaway has been reasonably consistent in six starts since returning in June from eight months on the sidelines and won over this distance three starts back, following up with another solid win over the 732m at Ipswich.

The final of the Queensland Sprint and Distance titles take place next Thursday, with the winners earning automatic berths to the National titles on August 27 at Adelaide’s Angle Park.
