Cobra Clutch Ready To Strike At Cannington

By Stuart Turner

Star trio Cobra Clutch, Fun Boss and Astrophysic look the top picks in Saturday night’s three WA Sprint Championship (520m) heats at Cannington.

Cobra Clutch (box one) has drawn ideally in the first heat as he aims to book place in next week’s state final, with the winner of that race progressing to the $75,000-to-the-winner event at Angle Park later this month.

Jamie Marsh’s greyhound has mixed form on his last two starts but should be fresh for this, his first start in more than two months.

He has won twice and placed twice in four previous starts from box one, including a solid 30.38 victory over a strong field on April 9.

This is a very competitive race but if in full fitness Cobra Clutch looks capable of saluting in this.

Fun Boss (box four) has run unplaced on his last two starts but looks primed to return to winning ways in the second heat.

One of WA’s best greyhounds of the last 20 months, his win at Cannington three starts back extended his record to 28 victories and 19 minor placings from 62 starrts.

He has won three times and placed four times in eight previous starts from box four, winning his last start wearing the blue rug in 30.29.

This draw has made it tough but Fun Boss is a class act and looks the best in this field.

One of the stars of the gun Paul Stuart kennel, Astrophysic (box four) has one of the finest records of any greyhound in the country and can extend that in this race.

A winner of almost $170,000 prize money, Astrophysic’s last start success over the 405m at Mandurah took his record to a superb 52 wins and 15 minor placings from 74 starts.

He has run predominantly over shorter than 500 metres but was a dazzling 29.93 victor over the 520m at Cannington on June 25.

Astrophysic has won a superb seven times from eight previous starts wearing the blue rug and can overcome the tricky draw once again in this.

In-form trio Dubliner (box two), Heaps Of Ability (box six) and Ramifications (box two) look  the likely winners in Saturday night’s three WA Distance Championship heats (715m).

The final of the Sprint and Distance Championships take place next Saturday, with the two winners progressing to the national finals on Saturday, August 27.
