Katey Roman Ready To Conquer At Launceston

By Stuart Turner

In-form trio Quiet Bay, Tecoma Emily and Katey Roman look the standout chances in tonight’s three competitive Tasmanian National Sprint Championship (515m) heats at Launceston.

Quiet Bay looms as a decent value chance jumping from box four in the first Sprint Championship heat (race six).

The Anthony Bullock-trained greyhound won from this box last week at Launceston in 30.33 and has saluted in four of her last seven starts.

She will likely face tough competition from Tax Man Wins (box one) and Penny’s Roman in box five but on current form is capable of winning this.

Class act Tecoma Emily jumps from box two in the first of two heats looking ideally drawn to extend her impressive career record of 13 wins and eight minor placings from 29 starts.

The Rodney Bragg-trained speedster, who has a sizzling track best of 29.42 and has been a standout performer since debuting just over a year ago, has won three times and placed once in five previous starts wearing the checks.

She recorded her best time from that box in February, a week after running an impressive 29.66 from the same box.

Tecoma Emily finished fourth at Launceston last week but looks capable of overcoming a field including the likes of likely challengers See Blue’s Girl (box four) and Retail Chart in box seven.

Katey Roman (box four) has been an impressive recent performer and looks the best bet in the third heat (race eight).

The Paul Hili-trained greyhound has won three of her last four starts and scored a smart 29.88 win at Launceston two starts back, not far off her super track best 29.68.

The first two across the line in each of the three heats plus the two fastest third placegetters will qualify for next week’s final, which takes place on the same night as the Tasmanian Distance Final.

The National Sprint and Distance titles, which feature the respective winners of finals from each state across Australia, take place at Adelaide’s Angle Park on Saturday, August 27.

In other Launceston Monday action, Shanlyn Witch looks ideally drawn in box eight to salute in the night's second race over the 278m.

The Pauline Green-trained greyhound went unplaced in her seven starts from box eight but has scored two wins and a placing in her last three outings wearing the pink rug.

She won from this box twice in succession over the 340m at Hobart in July and should be fresh and firing for this.
