Brad Hill Billy Primed For NSW Distance Tilt

By Jeff Collerson

Brad Hill Billy has confirmed his National Distance Championship aspirations with the latest impressive performance of his notable career.

The Ray Smith-trained greyhound (pictured) Clocked a smart 34.78 over the 605m at Dubbo last Thursday - a time which compared favourably with the long-standing course record at the NSW Central West track.

One of the best NSW greyhounds of the last two years, Brad Hill Billy's record now stands at 26 wins and 28 minor placings from 69 starts.

Now with more than $243,000 prizemoney to his name, last year's Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint winner has stepped up to the middle distance and staying ranks well in recent months after making his name over the 520m.

He has one win from two starts over the 720m at Wentworth Park so far and looks a strong contender for this Saturday's NSW Distance heats at the Sydney circuit.

Soviet Missile holds the 605m track record at Dubbo with a 34.70 run in February 2014.

Lagoon Jazzy is close to "coming to town'' following her dazzling win over 520m at Dapto last Thursday night.

The daughter of Barcia Bale and Lagoon Lowanna Clocked">Clocked an impressive 29.90, far and away the best time of the meeting and equivalent to a 29.60 performance on a fast track according to owner-trainer Ray Webster.

"We were warned before the meeting began that around 90 tonnes of sand had been put on the track and that times could be between .40 and .60 slower than they would be on a quick surface,'' Webster said.

"Off a trial Lagoon Jazzy had posted just before Dapto I was confident she would run 29.60 so was well satisfied with her effort.

"Now I will search for a series where the heats are held at a provincial track like Dapto and the final is staged at Wentworth Park.

"I believe that would be a perfect introduction for her to metropolitan racing.''

Pippy Dippy, who took her record to five wins, a second and a third from eight starts when she won brilliantly at The Gardens on Friday, will do her future racing in Victoria.

Trainer Martin Bowe said that Pippy Dippy's owner has decided to send her to top Melbourne mentor Robbie Britton.

"Naturally I am disappointed to lose such a talented greyhound on the eve of me organising for her to make her Wentworth Park debut,'' Bowe said.

"Pippy Dippy has Clocked best of the meeting figures in each of her past four consecutive wins so has a bright future.

"But it is the owner's prerogative and with the uncertainty surrounding NSW greyhound racing I can't say I blame him.

"I will miss Susie (Pippy Dippy) though because like most trainers, I have become very attached to her.

"She even comes in and sits on the lounge watching the football with me some nights.''

Pippy Dippy's departure will leave battling Hunter Valley trainer Bowe with just three greyhounds, although he believes Shezza Girl, who is trialling smartly, is set to be his next TAB track winner.
