Janet Silver Disqualified

By Greyhound Racing NSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) advises that licensed trainer and breeder Ms Janet Silver has been disqualified for nine months and fined $800 in relation to a number of offences including failing to seek veterinary care and failing to exercise reasonable care and supervision.

Between August 2015 and January 2016, Compliance Officers inspected Ms Silver’s kennels on a number of occassions and issued work directions. Ms Silver failed to comply with these directions.  During the kennel inspection on 15 February 2016, Compliance Officers were concerned about the welfare of greyhound ‘Our Guy’ and directed Silver to seek immediate veterinary care. The vet found the greyhound to be lame and suffering from pain and, as a result, was euthanised.

GRNSW subsequently opened a Stewards’ Inquiry and issued Ms Silver with multiple charges. After considering all the evidence and submissions, GRNSW Stewards disqualified Ms Silver for nine months for failing to provide veterinary care to ‘Our Guy’ and issued fines totalling $800 for other breaches of the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules. In determining the penalty, the Stewards considered that there must be an adequate deterrent to ensure all industry participants understand the importance of exercising proper care for the health and wellbeing of greyhounds.
