Forensics Firm To Investigate Grave Allegations

By Greyhound Racing NSW

As a result of further disturbing allegations about the possibility of new mass greyhound graves located in NSW, Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has appointed leading forensics firm KordaMentha Forensic to conduct a comprehensive review to determine the veracity of the claims and what, if any, further action can be taken.

KordaMentha Forensic has been instructed by GRNSW to investigate new information concerning possible mass greyhound grave sites as well as review GRNSW’s existing intelligence holdings and previous investigations to determine the substance of additional mass grave allegations.

GRNSW interim Chief Executive Paul Newson said GRNSW will use all reasonable resources available to it to independently review all allegations of mass greyhound graves it received.

“In this past week, GRNSW has received further information alleging additional mass graves are located in areas across NSW. This includes allegations of a mass grave in the vicinity of a former greyhound racing track,” Mr Newson said.

“Given the serious nature of the allegations and GRNSW’s determination to safeguard animal welfare and integrity where misconduct and serious wrongdoing is revealed, GRNSW will provide KordaMentha Forensic with all the information necessary to ensure they can conduct a comprehensive and independent review and establish whether there are additional mass graves that are connected to the greyhound racing industry and what further action would be appropriate.”

Earlier this month, an independent investigative report released to GRNSW by leading Sydney barrister Clive Steirn SC found that it was “highly probable” that at least 99 greyhounds were killed and buried at a Hunter Valley training track between 2009 and 2013. GRNSW continues to liaise with appropriate law enforcement agencies to determine whether that report discloses any criminal offences by industry participants.

GRNSW urges anyone with information about mass greyhound graves in NSW to contact the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Hotline on 1800 680 174 or at www.greyhoundwelfare.com.au
