Magri's Duo Ready To Dominate Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Saturday night's Ladbrokes Odds Boost Final looks a match between kennelmates Wicked Warrior and Clock's Ticking with trainer Jason Magri believing the dog which gets the better start will win.

"There is nothing between them and because there is not a lot of early pace in this race I think Wicked Warrior in box five and Clock's Ticking in seven are drawn okay,'' Magri said.

"Although Clock's Ticking had box four in his heat win I expect him to run straight from box seven to the first turn but Wicked Warrior has the inside running on him so I think the winner will be the dog which comes out best.''

Clock's Ticking won his heat in 30.12 after recording splits of 5.49, 13.89 and 18.04 while Wicked Warrior (pictured) took his Wentworth Park record to four wins from as many starts with his all the way heat victory in 30.20.

Wicked Warrior's sectional times were 5.57, 13.98 and 18.09 but while times favour Clock's Ticking, he could find it hard to get around his speedy kennelmate and reach the lead by the crucial first turn.

Safest bet on Saturday should be National Sprint Championship hopeful Reefton Treasure, who has drawn the rails in heat two of the fourth and fifth grade Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Series over 520m.

Reefton Treasure defeated track specialist Sweetwater Boy and triple Wentworth Park winner Vintage Rox over 472m at Bulli last Saturday night, despite having never previously seen the course.

Vintage Rox, who chased him home at Bulli, should atone after drawing box one in heat one of the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal.

He drops in grade after being unplaced in top class company at his past two Wentworth Park starts and trainer Craig Chappelow says the dog is going "as well as ever.''

"When Vintage Rox draws wide he jumps fairly but then wants to crash towards the rails but from boxes one, two, three or four he usually begins fast," Chappelow said.

Springcreek Bill's second placing when an odds-on favourite at Wentworth Park on July 20 was a sensational performance and the dog can reward punters who stick with him by landing the 520m Blakes Of Sydney fourth and fifth grade.

After leading throughout to win at his Wentworth Park debut, Springcreek Bill was crowded for room from box one and veered off the track at the first turn before finishing second in fast time at his latest outing.

Springcreek Bill had been seventh at the half way mark and was still back in fourth position at the top of the straight.

"Box six doesn't concern me because Springcreek Bill can handle being out there," trainer Billy Bates said.

"He only has to get around the first turn without being checked to be very hard to beat.''
