Lagoon Jazzy Aims To Make A Splash At Richmond

By Stuart Turner

Ray and Sharron Webster believe Lagoon Jazzy can pip her littermate Lowanna’s Son in Friday night’s Richmond Riches Trophy Final (race eight, 400m).

The eye-catching duo, who are both from the same Barcia Bale and Lagoon Lowanna litter, will jump alongside one another in the feature race with Lagoon Jazzy in box two and Lowanna’s Son in box three.

Lagoon Jazzy was a very impressive 22.50 winner in last week’s heats, while Lowanna’s Son clocked 22.70 to secure his place in the final.

While there is very little between the pair, Ray Webster, husband of trainer Sharron, gives Lagoon Jazzy the nod this week.

“With her time last week and the fact she’s drawn inside him, I’m leaning towards Lagoon Jazzy,” he said.

“I’m worried Kay Dee Em in box four might cut across and get on top of Lowanna’s Son. We’re hoping he can get out on even terms with Jazzy.

Lagoon Jazzy is a mad railer (and) I think she’ll get out of box two well. If she’s in front, she’ll be hard to beat.”

While the Websters favour Lagoon Jazzy, there is no discounting the ability of Lowanna’s Son who kicked off his career with two wins in the Magic Maiden series at Wentworth Park. He also qualified for the Richmond Riches Puppy Auction Classic in May, finishing sixth behind Thirty Talks.

Lowanna’s Son had those two wins in the Magic Maiden at Wentworth Park and initially we thought he was the better prospect, but she’s caught up,” Webster said.

“I think he’s the one with more improvement in him, and I do think he’ll finish this race off well, but I’m giving it to Jazzy.”

Of the others in Friday’s final, Cosmic Feature (box five) looks a decent value chance after his heat win in 22.76 last week.

In other Richmond Friday action, classy performer Fantastic Skye (box eight) looks the top pick in the Peter Darroch Appreciation Stakes (race four, 535m).

The Jason Fletcher-trained greyhound, who has won more than $100,000, triumphed over the 535m at Richmond two starts back and placed at Wentworth Park last start.

Sharp Gambler, a newcomer form the gun Jason Mackay kennel, looks the standout in the Steeline Riverstone Stakes (race nine, 400m).

The son of Collision and Dusty Retreat is making his Richmond debut but has performed well elsewhere, scoring two wins and five placings from his seven starts so far.

Fellow hot newcomers Nadal (box seven) and ZIPPING Quinsee in box one look the best bets in races one and five respectively.
