Clash Of The Talents At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

The clash of Mister Cowora and Clock's Ticking, two of the hottest young sprinters in training, will highlight Wednesday night's Wentworth Park card.

Each will make his Wentworth Park debut in the fourth leg of the quaddie, the 520m www.ladbrokes.com.au Stakes, with Mister Cowora in box one and Clock's Ticking in four.

Mister Cowora has had seven starts for five wins, a second and a third, while Clock's Ticking has had four wins and a third from his past five outings.

The Jason Magri-trained Clock's Ticking is expected to make the pace despite his middle draw as Watta Barghest in box three is notoriously slow early while Jimmy Da Genius (box two) is also not renowned for his early dash.

But the presence of moderate beginners in boxes two and three should also help Mister Cowora, who is no "lid pinger'' himself.

Mister Cowora, trained by veteran Jimmy McGlinn, has not raced for five weeks but is going better than ever.

"I trialled him over 515m at The Gardens on July 1 and he clocked 29.49, faster than he has ever won in there,'' McGlinn said.

"My only worry is his first split was nothing flash - only 5.08 - but Mister Cowora has had two trials at Wentworth Park, clocking 30.25 and then 30.35 and is a better dog now.

"Box one is also a big plus because he would not begin well enough to win if he had come up with box eight.''

Ricky Boy, who has qualified for Saturday night's postponed 720m Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Final, is set to prove his versatility by taking out Wednesday's www.gapnsw.com.au Stakes over 520m.

The third leg of the quaddie sees Ricky Boy in box five but trainer Keith Pedrana is quietly confident.

"He needed a run before Saturday night's 720m race so rather than trial him I thought I might as well nominate him for a 520m race at Wenty,'' Pedrana said.

"Ricky Boy has won in 30.39 over 520m in town and was a good third in his 720m Monthly Medal heat on July 2.

"He is fresh enough to sprint well so if he can get on the lure at the first turn he will be hard to beat.''

Good Odds Angel, who bounced back to top form with a blistering all the way win at Wentworth Park on July 6, is set to go back-to-back by winning Wednesday night's 520m Free For All.

Good Odds Angel likes to be drawn wide and has box six, the same draw she had when she clocked a near-personal best 30.04 on a slow track at her most recent outing.

In her latest win Good Odds Angel recorded dazzling early splits of 5.37 and 13.80, figures which have seldom been matched in 2016.

While she shapes as Wednesday's best bet, the top value comes with the Christine Proctor-trained Cabello Mucho in the second quaddie leg, the 520m Ladbrokes Bet Better Stakes.

Cabello Mucho, a true "box one bandit'' will carry the advantageous red rug and was far from disgraced when fourth to his kennelmate Bessy Boo in a Free For All at Wentworth Park on June 29.

He also finished second on his last start on July 2.
