Hooter Harnett Ready To Roar At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Hooter Harnett, who was desperately unlucky not to collect the top prize in the Ladbrokes GBOTA Distance Challenge in June,  is the standout pick at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

The Kristy Sultana-trained greyhound has box six in heat two of the 5th grade Ladbrokes Monthly Medal (race two, 720m) and given a clear run should win comfortably.

Owned by Matt Duncan, who raced the greyhound’s dam Mulberry Street, Hooter Harnett finished second to Iona Muffin Top in the Distance Challenge after being last away and badly checked when attempting to reach the rails at the first turn.

On Saturday he will relish having a vacant box on his left, while Madliena Girl (box four) is usually slow early.

Hooter Harnett has won six of his 15 starts and while he is the least experienced runner in the Ladbrokes heat, he also has by far the most potential.

In other action at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, Kava Fancy has been unplaced in two Wentworth Park starts but a favourable box two draw makes him the best value wager in heat one of the 5th grade AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes (race four, 520m).

Kava Fancy crossed sharply to the rails from box eight and led at the first turn before breaking 31 seconds in a runaway win over 535m at Richmond last Saturday night.

“He had box eight in his two previous Wentworth Park defeats and was never out of trouble each time,” trainer Robert Hancock said.

“Kava Fancy has a lovely draw this week and if he brings his Richmond form to town he should win. At Richmond he has had 17 races and picked up 13 cheques but last Saturday's win there was his best.”

Aisle Tifi, arguably greyhound racing's fastest beginner, is expected to lead all the way from box one in the 5th grade ladbrokes.com.au Stakes (race three, 520m).

She has made the pace at her past six tougher Wentworth Park engagements for a win, three seconds, a fifth and a sixth.

Wentworth Park debutant Gate Blaster looms as the main danger to likely warm favourite Milldean Focus in heat two of the 5th grade AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes (race five, 520m).

Saturday night's free-for-all (race eight, 520m) features a likely speed duel between Vintage Rox (box three), El Magnifico (four) and Let it Develop (seven).
